Can Everyone Just Be Normal? Noah Wyle, Chappell Roan, and the Wretched Rise of Toxic Fandoms — Vanity Fair Fandom has always been intense—but recent events involving stars from The Pitt, Heated Rivalry, Percy Jackson, and more suggest that diehards have gone to a new, scarier level.

this interests me and makes me think of moments within the killing eve fandom - but I’d love to see more discussion of the ways that media industries actively cultivate superfans and parasociality apple.news/A-2-Yab-mSeO...

I personally wish more people would be open about those disappointments. it can be tough and misleading when we only hear of the successes

i think that the best way to prepare for book publication is to write something completely different

it’s interesting too to watch the writing decline across seasons often for industry-related reasons

I love this thread and completely share your interest in the archives as a way to sidestep overtheorizing while doing rigorous work. I’ve also noticed that the archival stories I want to tell have shifted a lot in recent years. instability and unknowability have lost their charm!
