Today the Irish National Archives has made available the records from the first census conducted by the Irish Free State in 1926, now that it is its 100th anniversary.
I've already spent several hours down this fascinating rabbit hole.

Sorry - I don't know. I remember looking at Scottish University seats registration and voting arrangements post 1885 & 1918, and whether it was different to England. At the time, I thought that was fairly arcane.
Excellent as always. It was useful to get more of the historical context than in the @mileendinstitute.bsky.social event last week on the same topic, which focussed on the implications for current UK-US relations. (I understand the sequel @ppfideas.bsky.social podcast, to come, will look at that.)
I've had a few queries recently via the website which could be answered easily by looking at the web page for the the relevant constituency group. It appears that new users of the site had not been finding the constituency group pages. I've now changed the wording on the homepage to make it clearer.
I once nearly got arrested for trying to break out of a house.
I never knew either of them. One was a miner in the Nottinghamshire coalfield, who fought as soldier in WWI, fighting at Gallipoli and on the western front (where he was gassed). The other was a gas works manager at Youghal, Ireland.

The last time that any part of the current area of Gorton & Denton elected a Conservative MP was in the 1983 General Election when Fred Silvester won Manchester Withington. Burnage (sub-Area 1) was then part of Manchester Withington.
In the boundary review implemented in 2024, the largest transfers from both Manchester Gorton and Denton & Reddish constituencies were to the newly formed Gorton & Denton constituency.
Despite not previously being included in the name, Denton was in Manchester Gorton constituency between 1955 and 1983 and it was part of Gorton constituency between 1885 and 1918.
I last went back a couple of years ago & visited a few of my old haunts - many have disappeared or are unrecognisable.
One that's gone is The Church in Levenshulme, which obviously we went to on a Sunday. Once got picked up by the police walking home with a carpet we were given there.
I lived there in 1976-77 - some good honest boozers, but not a hipster in sight.
"The hipster pubs of Levenshulme" - there weren't any that could remotely fit that description when I lived there!
Mystery solved (I think). The 1983 constituency boundaries use the wards defined by The City of Manchester (Electoral Arrangements) Order 1981, which came into effect on 6th May 1982. So the 1981 ward boundaries do not define the 1983 constituency boundaries.

It has got me puzzled - the ward map I have for 1981 agrees with the boundaries you have shown. Yet the boundary between Gorton and Withington constituencies in the 1983 Boundary Commission report goes further south (in line with the 1991 line), which doesn't seem consistent?
The last time that any part of the current Gorton & Denton constituency elected an MP who was not representing the Labour Party was in 2010 when John Leech won for the Liberal Democrats in Manchester Withington. Burnage now (sub-Area 1) in Gorton & Denton, was then in Manchester Withington.
The Gorton & Denton by-election will be held on 26th February. The constituency was created in 2024 from parts of the former Manchester Gorton, Manchester Withington and Denton & Reddish seats. The parts coming from the first two are in the City of Manchester, while the rest are in Tameside MB.
Unfortunately I am otherwise engaged that evening, else I would have loved to attend.

The longest wait since a General Election for the definitive account (by @robfordmancs.bsky.social @timbale.bsky.social @drjennings.bsky.social @psurridge.bsky.social) to come out, but it has finally arrived to add to the series since 1945. That said, it also has the biggest number of pages of any.
I love reading through the old Abercrombie reports (and similar non-Abercrombie versions). They were beautifully produced.
I saw it at the cinema on Friday. Agree with your assessment. I thought it was much better than the second Knives Out film, whose characters were rather one-dimensional caricatures.
