Brisbane could be on this list if our pollies stopped looking for excuses and focused on solutions.

Last night was the annual BQ Christmas drinks at parliament.
Guess how many of us got there!
While Brisbane's pollies love to talk about planning for protected bike lanes other cities are doing it!
As the saying goes it's not what you say but what you do!
There are concerns that the speed humps on the shared path through Howard Smith Wharves does not comply with the Australian Disability Discrimination Act and the relevant Australian Standard AS1428.1.
Please sign petition so BCC investigates.

Cr Danita Parry has informed the @cbdbug.bsky.social that
Brisbane City Council has no timeline to replace the plastic barriers on the CBD CityLink cycleway despite fellow LNP councillor, Cr Murphy previously stating in 2022 they would be replaced with concrete!
Is it any wonder that generally people believe one more road will solve traffic congestion with click bait titles like this.
The fact is investing in fast, frequent & reliable public transport and active transport is the only way to solve congestion but that is not "click bait".
Last month Brisbane City Council posted this clip of road resurfacing works. What is plainly clear is the dilapidated state that BCC is currently letting road surfaces get before they are doing work. The road surface is clearly a fall hazard to people on bikes with pot holes!
We are pleased to hear from the Lord Mayor that the other Story Bridge shared path is reopening. What continues to be not be explained is how the LNP - Liberal National Party controlled council allowed the state of the paths to degrade to such a state they were no longer safe.
What would be your response?
In space conscious Japan they have underground automated secure bike storage.
No reason why Brisbane could not do the same at multiples locations.

Just a little reminder that London is continuing it's construction program of safe protected bike lanes while Brisbane 🤔.
Lessons from Vancouver on the value of city leadership, keeping "bikelash" in perspective, and transforming into a bicycle-friendly city.
Brissy pollies love to talk about road projects being "congestion busting" but the opposite is true.
More roads = more congestion eg LA
Seoul removed a freeway and not only got a river back but reduced congestion!
Woohoo! Confirmation from Brisbane City Council (via the media) one footpath on the Story Bridge will be open again tomorrow (Friday)!
Council are now saying "The latest expert advice confirmed the footpaths could last another two to five years”. Then why close both footpaths with no notice?

, Cr Wines claims that BCC has spent more than a "billion" on active transport infrastructure but the question is was all of it council funds?
Many BCC have been co funded by the State or Federal Government!
Remember when Brisbane had CityCycle?
It could of been a success, but the our LNP run council refused to install safe, protected and connected bike lanes!
If you provide safe, direct cycling infrastructure people will ride!
This morning the Story Bridge Bike Bus crew celebrated the 150th bike bus journey with party hats, cake and sparklers.
The 8am bike bus has been a great community initiative to get people across the bridge safely after BCC suddenly closed active transport access.

Celebrating World Car-Free Day on Herschel St this morning, with a pop-up protected bikelane. Our lane took a few minutes to install, was cheap and effective. Hope Brisbane City Council was watching to see how well the lane worked.

In this Brisbane Times article BCC is busy delivering excuses in place of footpaths.

After allowing the structural safety of the Story Bridge shared paths to degrade to such a condition they were no longer safe, it is positive to hear from Lord Mayor Schrinner that one path with the temporary surface will be open to foot & bike traffic before the end of the year.

Pop-up bikelane on Herschel St for World Car-Free Day
After Council gave a non-committal response to our 800-signature petition, we intend to show how easy it would be to install a protected bikelane on Herschel for people to ride between the Bicentennial Bikeway, the CBD and northern suburbs.
A little reminder cities don't become cycling cities because their pollies say they're cycling cities, they become cycling cities due to the hard work of installing safe, protected infrastructure.
Brisbane could be the same if our pollies had the will!
Congratulations to Story Bridge Active Travel Alliance for keeping the Story Bridge Bike Bus rolling. Wednesday 24th September will be the 150th bike bus ride. You can join the bike bus 8am at Scott St, Kangaroo Pt
Brisbane City Council is yet to grant development approval to HSW's proposed changes to the site.
The CBD BUG has submitted an additional submission relating to the latest round of documents.
The proposed path remains non-compliant with TMR & Austroads guidelines.
The Dutch we're always the cycling dream.
They got there through hard work.
Brisbane could be the same if our pollies did some hard work!
It is good to hear that the Story Bridge paths are receiving a new temporary surface for reopening.
This new path surface is only temporary or as 9 News Queensland described it, only a "band aid" solution as the existing path surface below will remain & continue to degrade.
A little reminder that cities aren't noisy, cars are!
The Story Bridge footpaths are still closed and the Story Bridge Bike Bus is still rolling.
Just a little reminder people will ride to the train if there is somewhere safe and easily accessible to park their bike.
