I've had pretty good experiences with UK banks preventing fraudulent charges, and the support mechanisms to reverse them are there if they did get through.

I appreciate some countries with worse regulations like the US don't have the best fintech innovations surrounding fraud prevention though!

I would like to hope most people are aware that in 30-40 years, a lot of video game software is going to be compromised on it's original media but I would like to hope the communication around this is making people aware of the issue.

Probably although I think most people messing around with old consoles have an awareness of some of the issues with physical media, although some are sticking their head in the sand.

It's weird, I've had various cartridges fail way before their time and others keep going despite extensive issues.

You can then boot into the original games using original hardware by using things like an SDGecko or an SD2SP2 for GameCube, or a USB hard drive enclosure for Wii.

It's kinda a non-issue in the grand scheme of things, the guides to set these sorts of things up are very user friendly.

You can dump them incredibly easily with tools such as CleanRip or something like USBLoaderGX if you happen to use a Wii.

It is both free and legal to do so in my jurisdiction (UK) providing you do not distribute the files.

I would also recommend making robust backups.

I barely touch my Switch 2 and PS4. I sold the rest.

If the thoughts are truly gone, or are in the process of leaving, on some level I will mourn the part of my brain that created them (paradoxically so).
