A diagram showing that 24 annually funded grants becomes only 15 funded grants if 50% of the funds for competitive grants are used for multi-year funding.
I was preparing for a talk I gave last evening to a lay audience and came up with this graphic to explain multi-year funding and why it leads to fewer competitive awards and funding investigators and projects.

I once tabulated experiences from my lab and collaborative papers. Some journals definitely took more time and effort. But the selection seemed more to be on how badly the senior author wanted that badge than on how much the paper moved the science - or how well it held up after. YMMV.
Suspicious of what? Personally I do not find desirable journals that want 27 supplemental figures that neither enhance the rigor nor move the story.
I remember normal. Normal was awesome. I wish I could swim in a big pool of normal right now.

Do not share with university administration.
A powerful man sexually pursuing a young woman who works for him is oppressive. It immediately limits and reshapes her future to her detriment, whether she is physically forced into it or not. It’s coercion either way, and that is why it’s so wrong. It’s an abuse of power.

That may be part. But too many flavors of pathology to cover in a skeet. I always liked the framing attributed to Botstein, “is it new and is it true?” Which works for both reading and reviewing.
