Design Studio Press, yes (he founded the studio). So, right now everyone is in a weird place in life at the moment; this book is taking a little longer to ramp up. I'm busy following up with some other artists. Send me an email to spacekrakkenLW@gmail.com and I will provide more than I can here.

This one is full-blown vizdev based on a public domain piece of literature. I'm gathering artists. It's another compilation book project with (I consider) best of the best in multiple industries. Think you might be into jumping on? If yes, shoot me an email

Hey! I seriously was going to say the same about you! Your brushes have been a staple of mine for a while now. So, while I have you, I'm slowly simmering the next book with Design Studio Press (I did the Nuthin' But Mech books over the years with them).

A late post, but this absolute gem arrived in the mail a few days ago. Having published six art books (Design Studio Press) I know the labor/chore of producing one of these.
@ianmcque.bsky.social and company have knocked this one out of the park. Pick up a copy. You're bookshelf will thank you!

Yeah, but remember, he created a Board of Peace and ended every conceivable war for the last 300 years.

I remember seeing all of this work when I first joined Gearbox back in 2007 as we were ramping up Colonial Marines. It was exciting to see several games going on simultaneously.

Hey Ian! Just wondering how the overseas book shipping is progressing? (or not...perfectly understandable right now as we are mid-plosion at the moment) Cheers!

I've had a couple of experiences working on some commercials for a vfx studio. The client tossed them some AI concepts, but the vfx blocked them from showing the agency that AI stuff until it was filtered through me.

A good descriptor of my experience as well. I was having flashbacks (or PTSD take your pick) of BL2.

I'd like to toot my own horn here regarding his design: a "less is more" success story. My goal was to design the most generic robot. His overall design has not changed since 2007 (I did some little tweaks for BL3 and the film guys did a few more, but very minor).

To my surprise I was actually not [completely] turned off by the experience. The best way to describe it was "that was a thing." It finds itself in that weird space of being a non-offense (nor good) filler of something. I designed Claptrap, so he was the only reason to see it. I was pleased.

Long after departing Gearbox I went to see this movie with very low expectations (game adaptations generally are not great...the architecture of the mediums are too different to pull off a linear story).

I feel I should weigh in on this. I was hired back in 2007 to help out on the original Borderlands game (style change, etc). I was hearing about this movie for years.

This is the third time I've had to apologize for a president (Bush 2 and Trump 2x...I'll take W back in a heartbeat)...we're all not nuts. We saw this coming a mile away.

Let me know if you want any backstory to the Colonial Marines game ship designs...

Well, unless you sign for a class most artists will not talk about this process. Partly it's assumed to be common knowledge because everyone has seen bts footage. It's not. Glad you're out there digging.

Work smarter not harder. It's good to give your audience a real-world touchstone to leap off from and have a general understanding of the design. This prevents the design from distracting from the story/experience and give sit some legitimacy.

(*I commented because you used some of my work ;)
