What would Trump's ideal news outlet look like? Now we know.
I wrote about the new White House app, where you can read stories like, "President Trump’s Clear and Unchanging Objectives Drive Decisive Success Against Iranian Regime."

Trying to imagine how the average CBS viewer feels about having 'Survivor' interrupted for 23 minutes for that
i don’t think that analogy holds up at all

Yes for sure. Past USMNTs (circa 1994-2014) obviously accomplished much more with less talent than this group. Was just noting that even the pure talent level in the pool these days isn't as high as it's sometimes hyped up to be.
Yeah. We have maybe three players who'd start for Belgium and exactly one who'd start for Portugal. And in the second halves of both games we played about half a dozen who wouldn't even be in consideration to make either of those countries' rosters.
Pocchettino has spent most of his tenure so far trying to figure out if Max Arfsten, Sebastian Berhalter, Cristian Roldan and Antonio Freeman should be the 20th through 23rd players on the roster and the answer at last seems to be probably not!
Neither do they!
The commentariat is so so bad. Lalas is the worst but Landon Donovan, Eric Wynalda and several other former stars are obnoxious in their own right!
Weston McKennie is a lovable goof fwiw. Tyler Adams is mature and thoughtful, Antonee Robinson seems likeably low-key, both are hard workers. Some of the others are either aggressively bland (Pulisic), unjustifiably arrogant (Reyna, Dest) or just don't have much of a public persona at all.
I'm not judging here, tbc, and it's not necessarily a political statement per se, but I found it interesting that Lindsey Heaps, Sophia Wilson and Lynn Biyendolo all chose to take their husband's names where some of their predecessors famously did not.
Yes! There's this grotesque, ostentatiously Anglophilic/Europhilic element of the fan base that roots for the US national team to succeed while actively rooting against the domestic league and everyone who touches it. Brazil and Mexico fans don't scorn their domestic leagues, why should we?
The goalkeeping heroics of Tim Howard sure would come in handy on a squad whose back line is as shaky as ours right now.
Ehhh, yeah I mean anything can happen in a single game and that was a really gritty squad. But winning a World Cup, historically, is not something a team of USMNT's caliber has ever done. Making the semis feels like a wildest-dreams ceiling for the foreseeable future.
I like it! Not an *entirely* unproblematic fave (e.g. they walked off the field in the African final to protest a ref's call) but they have some very likeable players, one true legend (Mane), and have historically been a standard-bearer for African democracy despite some recent troubles.
I actually think the team's political vibe has shifted a bit since the overtly activist Megan Rapinoe days, but someone who follows more closely might have a better read on that.
Yes! Rooting for the USWNT is a totally different vibe. Geopolitically a Goliath, competitively also a Goliath, but hard to hate because the team's success is a testament to Title IX and America's ~relatively~ half-decent record on gender equality in sports bsky.app/profile/devo...
The thing every USMNT fan hangs onto is some version of, "OK but what if we got Pulisic, McKennie, Adams, Robinson &Tillman all in peak health and form at the same time?" And yeah, in that unlikely scenario we might legitimately have.. the world's 11th-best roster? And still zero shot at a World Cup
Rooting for the US men's soccer team is one of the weirdest and most humiliating experiences in sports fandom. Geopolitically you're a hated Goliath. Competitively you're David with no slingshot. The team's potential is not very high and somehow they still inevitably fail to live up to it.
On this day when I was three, my dad woke me and told me to get bundled up because it had snowed and we were going sledding. He helped me put on snowpants, boots, coat, scarf, mittens, hat, the works. I trundled outside and braced for the icy blast. Took me a minute to realize it was 80 degrees out.
good meme, wrong target imo. but then i'm a journalist too so my opinion probably doesn't count

I need to apologize to a large group of people on here who felt excluded by my previous skeet. I'm sorry, you are right.
Bluesky is also home to a thriving community of people who have multiple master's degrees but never completed their second PhD, or in some cases even their first.
