From the Civil Rights Movement to the March for our Lives against gun violence, protests in educational spaces have made history.

Campus should be a place for discussion, debate, dissent, and yes, non-violent protest.

Safety is essential—but change requires disruption.

At a time when we need young people to protest more, not less, the educational buffer zone bill is alarming.

Intro 175-B, which curbs free speech and protest at "educational facilities," is too easy to abuse and will have a chilling effect on New Yorkers pushing for change.

NYPD cops on modified duty for wild caught-on-video Brooklyn liquor store clash with suspect “Officers should never treat a person this way,” Mayor Mamdani said, calling what the video captured “disturbing and unacceptable.”

Even if the officers had arrested the right man, this conduct appears wrong in so many ways. We now know this man wasn’t even involved in the alleged crime.

The officers were quickly placed on modified duty, and an investigation is underway—it should be full, fair, and swift.

If you're unable to exercise your right to vote, that right has been taken away.

Yet too many voters on Rikers have been unable to register, get ballots, or have their votes counted—though civic engagement is key to reentry.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Brooklyn Community Board 17 Chairman Rodrick "Ruddie" Daley, a long-time educator, advocate for young people, and powerful community leader.

We must strive to continue in his legacy of strong civic engagement—for a more just Brooklyn and New York City.
