Two way cycle lanes aren't for everyone.

Bike watching at Haymarket - possibly the capital's busiest long distance bus stop.
New bike lane allows child to do a city journey by bike. A rare Paper Bicycle offers the sturdy weight of an e-bike but without batteries.
Road cyclist and couple of VOI rentals later by-passed the two way path.

Capitalising on — & capitulating to — UK Conservative-stoked culture wars.

Motorists frustrated with road condition, rising traffic and congestion. Frustration & jealously, along with motonormativity, are a powerful combination.

So while cycling (& demand) are growing, easy target for fiscal cuts.

…Gillespie Crescent (northside) at Gillespie Place. We are aware of the demand for cycle parking on this corridor and we will also be reviewing the final layouts to see if there are any other locations that would lend themselves to having Sheffield Stands introduced.”

“Thanks for reaching out on this and I can confirm that as part of the ongoing works we will be reintroducing 4No. Sheffield Stands on Valleyfield Street (northside) at Leven Street, and 2No. beside Scotmid COOP on Leven Street. We will also be installing 4No.new Sheffield Stands on…

It's fairly classic stuff if so - rather than preserving both options.

I fear that will be a victim of the naĂŻve assumption that folk will shift to Lochrin Pl > Tarvit St with Meadows to Union Canal route provision. Was it a useful lane or just parked in? Or was it just a feed into the ASZ box?

You've played cycle amenity bingo before, I see 😅

Just hope it's not all on hold for the cycling bit of the works for Meadows to Union Canal; can imagine some are likely slated for Tarvit St, for example.

A wild guess here is that there's some to go back in but that this hasn't quite been finished up with the Kings Theatre Public Realm works... we have a contact, will email a query

‘Quality of life’ isn’t a big house, luxury goods or a fancy car. It’s being able to cycle your kids on safe streets or run side by side down peaceful roads with your friends. Everyone can & should have this.

Honestly my guess would be it's on :focus / :focus-within and they're trying to be more accessibility friendly with it; it's just not particularly subtly designed.

My letter in today's Edinburgh Evening News setting the record straight on our group's position on North-South tram.

We will await the consultation report and continue to listen to the views of residents and stakeholders. It would be premature to reach a decision before that.

- Servicing: who’s around that can help you out to keep you on the road. You’re lucky if Rob is close enough by - supplies a lot of folk across the country with parts and cargo bikes are a passion of his.

- Cost: do not fall into the trap of thinking it’s an expensive bike - it’s a very cheap car!

- Cargo is typically more about available spaces and points to strap stuff on than the volume of cargo space. If you can use straps (recommend Rokstraps and Magma straps) then you can go upwards, or have stuff atop the bike, rather than only relying on the containment space

- Style - if you’re happy with kids on the back, or like me if you’d prefer to keep an eye on them. Easier to chat / supervise if they’re in the front of the bike (a ‘bakfiets’ or front-loading ecargo)

- For me, the same goes for cargo - front loading means I can see shifting / overhang / issues
