Also, “Warsh” is what my dad does to his hands before eating supper.

I can’t find that he has ever actually held a classroom position - just “visiting scholar” at Stanford Graduate School of Business, where I doubt he actually had to worry about giving “anything less than an A” (assuming he actually taught and wasn’t just an occasional lecturer).
Even though Prof. Zimmerman specifically mentions the teaching/research imbalance, his writing *screams* “of course, *I* won’t be teaching. My research is too important.”
I actually could see my way to agreeing with part of the bit about the subordination of teaching to research, but it’s clear this author is just trying to land fat stacks of cash from tasteless billionaires.
Reminder: the first vaccine mandate in the history of what can be called the American armed forces was handed down by George Washington during the Revolutionary War.
Because Washington wasn't a goddamned idiot.
Hey! Show some respect for Arthur Carlson! His mother inherited that radio station fair and square! How could he have known turkeys can’t fly?
Imagine seeing a Grimace hit by a car on the side of the road. For us it’s the stuff of nightmares but for motorists in McDonaldLand it is the grim reality of everyday life
I presume it’s a marinade of Beefeater and crushed Adderall.
Tucker, a white and orange cat, on a red and white comforter.
Just because you need to see Tucker.
Not one but *two* studying/classroom montages!
2025 Politico headline: Trump on Texas redistricting: ‘We are entitled to 5 more seats’
John Gramlich skeet quoting Trump in NYT today: Trump: “I don’t know if you know what gerrymandering is, but it’s not good.”
A sowing/reaping for the ages
Orange fluffy cat inside my car.
I have to go to work and this is not my cat.
I’m planning on being there. My nanny shall be well and truly hooted.
Weird thought: the big dividing line in politics is “Do I want to help or no?”

We know there are battles between the Pentagon and the FBI all the time. We just didn’t expect them to be over the last Coors Light.
With the help of the Sandy Hook families, The Onion has reached a long-awaited deal to take over InfoWars.
We've enlisted the help of @timheidecker.bsky.social, who will be InfoWars' Creative Director.

Red ink line drawing of a Kebab Chef with his Meat Roll. On the roll the pattern from the album cover of Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures, which is also the caption under the image.
Star Trek The Original Series scene. We're in a CORRIDOR! A room door is open, and we see two crewmen spilling out into the hallway in red and blue uniforms. They are otherwise indecipherable tho because they are entirely enveloped in a big cloud of smoke. It's pouring out all around them and into the hallway area, like there's a Phish concert in there. Closed caption reads, "[COUGHING]"
While this can happen anywhere, private and charter schools are especially prone to this sort of thing, especially if they are explicitly (white) evangelical Christian. It’s Pete Hegseth’s erotic fantasy.
I’m reminded of this exchange from Real Genius:
Dr. Hathaway: Do you run?
Chris Knight: Only when chased.
Maximize urban and suburban turnout and let the rotten boroughs be.
Hi, I grew up in a rural white area and have spent more than half my life in such areas, including a recent 13-year-run in western MN.
Nope. The fear of difference is too great to overcome.
Very true, though Frank would have gotten really into “fat-bottomed, flabby-faced, pot-bellied, baggy-eyed bastard.”
There is not a doubt in my mind Lenny did stuff that would make Jimmy Levine blush, especially after Felicia died, but holy wow from the Clarinet Sonata to Mass is just one banger after another.
I acquired, perhaps not entirely through licit means, a copy of the B&H-published full score to West Side Story a few years back. Sometimes I just crack it open and study it.
The man played piano.
PIANO.
“You hear Pluto too?”
I even have a great plot for one, based on a real life thing, but 50+ years after the fact, the author of the book on which I’d base it is holding out for movie rights.
