In an era of anti-heroes, The Maxx satirized that, redefining what mainstream comics could be. RIP Sam Kieth.

This was the very first TV commercial for the NES that aired in 1985.
Notice the term "video game" wasn't mentioned once. This was after the video game crash of 1983 and Nintendo was very careful to separate themselves from it.
And it paid off. The NES was in 30% of US households by 1990.
