"A gruesomely compelling, well-paced portrayal of a family hounded by a traumatizing intergenerational debt."

Very good piece. I'd love to see some commentary / response that addresses some of what is unique about Japanese (and American) culture. Also curious about the govt social safety net in Japan vs the U.S. and relative income inequality

Friendly reminder that the first interstate highway to Chuck Berry's home in St. Louis had only opened 3 years before Berry advised Rudolph to take the freeway down, thereby helping Santa to avoid Christmastime traffic. #christmas #christmasmusic #themoreyouknow

Avi Loeb Fights Back: Response to Brian Cox & the 3I/ATLAS Critics Spotify video

Interesting response by Avi Loeb & Brian Keating to recent criticisms of the #3iatlas anomalies.

My 2 cents: fine, but it would be nice if these arguments happened w peer-review. For non-experts, it's hard to track what's bs & what might not be

Maybe I'm naive, but that's not how I read what he's doing. This bickering aside, I get why you & others would be hostile to him. My one other thought on this is: how much of this is about the project & how much is about him (i.e., if someone(s) more reputable proposed this, would it be ok)?

You've clearly made up your mind but FWIW if there is a good case that Loeb's project would sabotage or undermine other astronomy initiatives somehow, I genuinely think somebody should make that argument. That would be persuasive, to me at least.

Whereas you've pitched the UN to fund research? Not sure I see how Loeb's pitch to the UN diverts money from UK or U.S. funding priorities for astronomy & also curious if you really don't think the U.S. govt is involved in deciding science funding priorities at this moment in history..?

5 months ago 0 0 2 0

No, science is usually funded by the government & sometimes the ppl making those funding decisions are scientists; sometimes they're politicians. It's also bitterly competitive. Even in the best case, scientists don't agree about funding priorities. And his priority isn't crazy to me.

That's not how I interpret it. I don't think he's saying shut down everything else that's happening in astronomy (which is also not under the auspices of the UN), but instead trying to get a new initiative going that has more international participation/support. He is obsessed, tho, I agree w that.

Within that budget, he is proposing a budget of $15m for a staff of 25. If you're suspicious, I guess you could say he's hoping to collect an extra paycheck from this to help run the thing, rather than doing it for free..? Right or wrong, he could make that money elsewhere; deans at Harvard make $1m

Advancing Interstellar Science: A Global Framework for Comprehensive Study of Interstellar Objects by Omer Eldadi (1), Gershon Tenenbaum (1) and Avi Loeb (2)

Very much not what the white paper said. He proposed the creation of a "United Nations Committee on Interstellar Objects (UNCIO)" & funding of $1.08b over 10 yrs, all under the UN. Not sure how this would "give him" the money/control, if he's at Harvard running Galileo. share.google/VZcUunHKOump...

a man says houston we have a problem ALT: a man says houston we have a problem

The #3IATLAS debate getting spicy out here. Jason Wright vs Avi Loeb & @UAPWatchers clapping back.

My 2 cents: Wright likely has *some* valid criticisms but also implies Loeb is acting in bad faith. I don't agree w that & "weird" is not an explanation for anomalies.

No Clear Cometary tail in Post-Perihelion Images of 3I/ATLAS On November 5, 2025, two new images of the interstellar object 3I/ATLAS were released. They show a compact source of light without a clear…

Welp, #3IATLAS doesn't seem to have a tail. In his most recent post, Avi Loeb lays out all the anomalies associated w this. Bottom line: if it's a comet, this thing should be breaking up or outgassing right now, with the way it recently sped up...

Hold me fast. Apparently #3IATLAS is continuing to smoothly accelerate in a way unknown to comets. If this is real & there's no associated outgassing (there isn't so far), then all the ppl who said it was a comet will ... keep claiming it's a comet right up until Avi Loeb's "mini probes" arrive
