GM Tip: Character death should feel earned, not random. Give players a chance to make final choices, have last words or go out in a blaze of glory. Death is more meaningful when there's agency in it.

I was thinking about vibe coding today and how often I see the argument that if you just write very long, detailed prompts you'll normally get what you need. And now I'm wondering why I'd write a giant prompt to get indeterminate output when I could just write the code.

Something I've been thinking a lot about in TTRPG design and theory lately is what I'll call "New Hammer Syndrome". A system becomes popular, and an under-pinning concept becomes the new "hammer" that turns all of TTRPGs into a certain kind of nail.

More games should have a cowardly baby mode. More games should let me suffer less consequences for dying or mistakes. Should have a "I just want the story" mode. Games should not pride themselves on "look how difficult we are".

I'm bad at video games and I wanna experience the good stories too :c
