Is that what the hullabaloo last night was? Whole feed was down, got told it was because I was using a VPN.

The only real difference is production. The first was perfect gameplay and universe and story, just boiled down. 2 is just proven formulas and enhancements and more story.
Same thing, more production.
And that's the way it should be done.
And how they've always made games. 🤷
While I get this, I'm the person that regularly works out movies and plots with the slightest hint, I avoid trailers for this. It's less about being spoilt, it's more missing a rare chance to be surprised.
So many stories follow patterns that are easily identifiable.

You play the very last flower left on Earth, bringing peace to long dead soil.
Explore brutalist ruins to collect memories of a dead world.

Ahhh your website is so cool! I spent so much time in map editors, I have a cherished memory spending and entire weekend trying to import a single fbx into source. Sigh.. Like before unity/unreal went free that was closest poor kids could get. Hacked pirated open source fun.
I miss it.
Our project is pure sweat equity (2 person was 3) all marketing, store pages, etc in house.
95% done, system/feature complete, working on a demo.
We would love a pub to help us market/force multi but even if that happened I would still consider us 'indie' in that old sense.
Like.. it's different.😅
Legit, personally wanted transition into comp Sci/more directly equitable skills.
Got gaslit and constantly pulled back, anything that has gone right for me is completely self created and not in any way correlatable to my degree or the environment.
I genuinely question how effective academic systems are when the industry continues to stagnate..
Curriculum guided by industry requirements and should directly result in growth that is in line with the amount of graduates produced right?
Right?

I agree, you need the focus to be on the fundamentals - how can you define a project or handle tasks or design anything beyond surface level systems?
You can't design art/code without knowing how it's made.
Yet there is an absolute mountain of people would try and convince you otherwise.
Similar similar! I burnt out trying to do an earlier degree, and honestly was partially why I was super hard on myself second time round - still pre diagnosis and just not healthy. Actually thinking of doing law now, but part time, and in my own time. Gotta be kind to ourselves. 😅
I got derailed out of a comp Sci pathway mainly through promises of how incredible the industry was and growing locally blah blah..
Then by end it was all "NOW GO AND MAKE NEXT FRUIT NINJA EVERYONE'S AN INDIE"
Like. Yeesh. Cool.
spent most my life not knowing I was autistic, just that I never fit in and got bullied a lot, never finished highschool, took me a decade to get to uni thinkin it was holy grail..
$40k debt for honestly a lot of bullying, toxicity, grind culture, and multiple mental breakdowns.
Evil funny tho?
..and the major industry with no unions and horrible bosses and cut throat churn juniors culture comes from exactly what I'm describing.
Poorly equipped, no real skills, and ready to be moulded by whoever pays them min wage.
Hell honestly lucky if temp contract most times.
It's a joke.
was genuinely run more like a frat house. Not kidding.
I once said we needed to foster a better environment/inspire creativity as everyone was just on YouTube all day.
Guy in charge legit said:
"They are just here for the experience, if they wanna sit here all day idc, I'll take their money."
Do comp Sci, engineering, anything but 'games'.was originally meant to bridge into straight comp Sci and got talked into staying.
Worst choice.
I learnt everything from open source, hacking, and old school pirate culture.
Academia was full of charlatans and people couldnt program a hello world.
TIGHTEN THE GRAPHICS WE GOT A OTHER ONE TO DESIGN ALRDY YEEEEESH
...srsly most of them are just degree mills.
Word of advice from someone who got roped into a games degree.
Don't do it.
Total waste.
Learnt more from YouTube.
You would be better off just burning your money.
Worst investment I ever made.

No one should under any circumstances ever go to university to make games.
I was meant to do comp Sci, and got lured into a games course.
Worst decision of my life.
Know what's worse than the games industry?
Games academia.
Just watch tutes on YouTube.

thank you this is very important to know, have a good day.
..there are healthy jams that now exist, but only by identifying and adapting to be kinder and less cruel whilst creating a fun and exciting space.
The bad ones still happen too tho.
While I can see the benefit in game jams, they come from a culture of grind.
In college the 24 and 48s were gruelling soul shredding events.
Why is it normalised?
That's not how creative flow should work, and whatever benefits are far outweighed by the culture it creates reliant on burn.

Australia/Queensland, massive gut punch honestly. Filling out one of those things and supplying everything is so much work, and I thought we'd made a solid pitch.
I crunched out a trailer whilst rife with covid for it. Sigh. 😔
That's so cooool.
Spend months applying to a government games grant, get no response at all.
Full pitch, deck, marketing, demo, the lot, didn't even get a rejection email.
Great way to waste time we couldn't afford, to not even get feedback.
We deserved at least a 'no thanks'.
only self published b4, from what i gather tho its like:
- Polished Demo
- Deck/Market Analysis/Plan/Other Investment
- Marketing Plan and Expectations of them
- Legal stuff like copyright/trademarks etc..
And then maybe you don't get completely screwed over?
it's scary af honestly..
i feel like there should be a lot more time spent remixing proven stuff, it's safer and easier to achieve and gives insight to where innovation could happen.
Like Stardew took harvest but looser/deeper systems and mixed collectathon. its led to a tonne of mods/hybrids and innovation as a result.
new season/arc. I heard the writers are fed up and the finale is yet another cliffhanger that doesn't move the plot forward at all.
will be a bunch of needless deaths/firings/studios set afire to try and maintain interest, and more of 'the same old' as ratings continue to plummet.
