Post your favourite film from the year you turned 18.
Potenital YouTube viewers. Trigger warning!
Video comments that contain the phrase "The algorithm brought me here!" WILL make me think less of you. The algorithm points you towards stuff it thinks you'll like. You actually know what you like. Own it. Use 'Search'. You're better than this.
I'll tempt fate and give this accursed video one final bump for the long weekend. Video published...CHECK. Six subscribers lost within 24 hours...CHECK. Coincidence? Nah. Video's good and I like the album. End of.
Watch it. Double dare ya!
Apropos of nothing in particular (apart from me caning this album for the last few weeks) here's a video about the The and "Soul Mining". For me, their high watermark, although others may disagree. Either way this is now a "thing", so do watch/share/like accordingly. Ta!

Old enough to remember digital being "the new thing".
How many people over the years bought digital delays, only to be subsequently told that analog was actually where it was at?

Sorry to hammer this one, but the YouTube algo has gone seriously downhill over the last 6 months, and impressions have taken a dive....So, ICYMI, help a brother out and have a watch of this. Thx!
So, last year I did the whole "movies about or inspired by musical genres"...Time to revisit, and flip things around. Here's 20 of my favorite songs about movies, directors and cinematic genres. Mostly indie/alt/post-punk stuff, as usual. Dig in!

Not a top fiver, but just to get a little Welsh representation in here...the Menai Strait (Afon Menai), separating the island of Anglesey from the North Wales mainland. It's narrow enough that there are a few bridges across it, so it's literally "no biggie".

Entering the town of Twin Peaks.
Bit late getting to this over here, but to celebrate 40 years of C86, I decided to cover a few of the bands...first up, McCarthy. A sweet, rewarding little back catalogue which is well worth revisiting. There are a few suggestions of where to get started right here. Thanks!

Pretty depressing to see the ever-worsening Pitchfork compound what remains of their appeal by pay-walling the shit out of their reviews. They're done aren't they? How long before Conde Nast pull the plug?

Another weekend bump for this! Part 2 of my guitar pedal odyssey...every guitar pedal I've ever owned (and my thoughts on them). Cheers (in advance) for a friendly click!

Part two of my trip down FX-pedal memory lane. Reverb, modulation, multi effects, the "weird" stuff...oh, and all my DIY efforts and kit builds. Link below! Ta for clicking!

Another weekend push for this one! A video for the guitar nerds out there, maybe? Part one is me detailing every effect pedal I've ever owned. Dirt and delay only, but in the next installment...reverb, modulation, multis, plus all of my DIY and homemade efforts. Yikes.

Finally got off my post-Christmas arse and did a vid. First of a two-parter about every guitar pedal I've ever owned. Pure folly triggered by me checking my old Flickr and finding it full of photos of all the pedals I've hawked over the years. A sobering experience. Watch!

Pick up the nearest book. Turn to page 42, post the second sentence.

Stop scrolling and post two characters who bring you happiness.
Thanks James. These were my first efforts on YouTube, so whilst I find myself cringing a little at my presentation, I'm really happy that the series is still doing what it was meant to, and spreading some love for some less-celebrated acts of the '90s alt/indie scene. Appreciate your support!

Remember that Christmas when The Kinks went "punk"? Yeah, a little more of that please...
Have a good one, everybody!

Won't be doing a year-end music thing for 2025, but must admit to being mystified by the absence of this one from the top 50s of all the usual suspects...The Ex "If Your Mirror Breaks"...For me, it's right up there. Anyway, as you were!
ICYMI...An Orange Juice/Edwyn video with a focus on the 1984 "Texas Fever" EP. Ta for watching!
Critical opinion seems to be all over the shop on this one, but put me in the "pro" column. Orange Juice's last release as a proper band (if we're being honest), the 1984 "Texas Fever" EP. A few thoughts and reflections to tie in with Edwyn's recent farewell gigs. Linky here!
