The baffling ecological disaster that’s killing America’s freshwater mussels Biologists are racing to save America’s freshwater mussels—the water-filtering keystone species that once filled the country’s rivers and streams—from extinction

Great article in Scientific American on Freshwater Mussel conservation. Many amazing friends and colleagues are featured along with the mussels!

And if Congress won’t do their duty members of the military still loyal to the Constitution must. If that fails, the people need to shut the country down - martial law be damned!

If NSF-DEB funded…time to close up shop and look for positions outside of US.

This cannot stand.

Pesticides, antibiotics, animal medicines: the chemical cocktail seeping into our rivers The list of everyday pollutants is a long one, and they could be as damaging to our water ecosystems as sewage spills

Ibuprofen can affect fish hatching, diclofenac impacts fish livers, flea treatments kill off the insects fish & birds eat - a cocktail of meds, pesticides, cleaning products, road runoff is poisoning our rivers - no wonder fish numbers are plummeting.

This is a WILD list of data to disappear. I was braced for climate stuff, but not, like, shoreline maps and coastal bathymetry

We’re seeing this fear (and boycott) for our upcoming conference. Several cancellations and questions about refunds if they cancel.

We were hoping the contract would have been written up before Jan 20, but it wasn't. Now it has been in "additional" review since with no updates or timeline given.

Has anyone had a contract approved through a CESU (Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit - Dept. of Interior) since January? We submitted a bid in early Dec 2024 on a subaward for collaborative work with USGS (funding already in place - FY2024).

Why would a foreign student want to come here and pay thousands of $ only to have their visa revoked part way through a program?

1 year ago 1 0 0 0

While clearly another vile and racist attack by our Dear Leader’s Regime, I also see this as another avenue for destroying higher ed. Many US schools are dependent on foreign student tuition for revenue (at much higher rates than domestic).

BREAKING: Some student visas/ records revoked, CMU impact unclear BREAKING: CMU staff learned on April 4 that several current and former international student SEVIS records have terminated without notice by the United States Department of Homeland Security, without notifying the university or impacted students.  CMU is not yet able to release the number of students at this university who have been affected, but is performing daily checks of the SEVIS system to identify any terminated records. Executive Director of University Communication Ari Harris said any students affected will be contacted by the university.  This is a developing story. Please check in with cm-life.com with more information as it becomes available.

Apparently this has been discovered at universities across the US over the last few days.
