After i red it again i think i did miss your point

It very much depends on the area most of the areas are not as colourful as square enix makes it look, most of the areas are very in theme

The colorful stuff is mostly the players themselves or i guess the casino

Also the nazi areas are very grey

I don't really see the anime part but the game gets to very dark subjects like slavery and racism

I wasn't too but its very different it relies more on the story rather then the gameplay
