My compliments to @natanlast.bsky.social and the JASA crossword class. The 2025-01-23 NYT Thursday crossword was brilliant.

It unlocked the grid in such a satisfying way once I caught on to the trick.

Welp, house is under Evacuation Order for the center fire. Less than a quarter mile. Stuck at work because my neighborhood is a no-go zone and there's only one way in and out anyway.

Now that it looks like the immediate fire danger has passed, I can safely say that the most traumatic part of this whole ideal is having to look at twitter to see updates from local governments.

BUT:

- We keep growing
- Inflation(= bigger $$)
- these conditions are occurring together more often
- the number of places with these conditions is increasing to new places
- we can’t ever spend enough on personnel
