The Red Meat - Diabetes Controversy: Data vs Claims
The Red Meat - Diabetes Controversy: Data vs Claims YouTube video by Nourished by Science

This assumption is incorrect. In the latest Nourished by Science video, we discuss the mechanisms linking type 2 diabetes and prediabetes to ASCVD, and what patients need to do to fully normalize their ASCVD risk.

2 months ago 2 0 0 0

It is often assumed that this is only because of their elevated blood glucose levels, and that the only thing they need to do to normalize their ASCVD risk is 'manage' their blood sugar levels.

People with type 2 diabetes and even prediabetes have a strongly increased risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), i.e., of having a heart attack or a stroke.

Beta-Cell Dysfunction: The Overlooked Cause of Type 2 Diabetes, and How to Measure It
Beta-Cell Dysfunction: The Overlooked Cause of Type 2 Diabetes, and How to Measure It YouTube video by Nourished by Science

In my latest video and blog post, I explain why the ability of our pancreatic beta-cells to secrete insulin is critical for normal glucose tolerance, and how to use and interpret data from a simple blood test to assess both beta-cell function and insulin sensitivity.

To be able to identify and address the root cause or causes of any glucose intolerance we may have, we first must understand our own level of insulin sensitivity and beta-cell function.

New Video & Blog Post: Beta-Cell Dysfunction: The Overlooked Cause of Type 2 Diabetes, and How to Measure It

Glucose intolerance, as in prediabetes or type 2 diabetes, is always the consequence of insufficient insulin secretion for a given level of insulin sensitivity.

So sorry to hear this, Kevin. Heartbreaking for you, I am sure, but also for the nutrition research community. I hope this won’t really be retirement …

Interesting video on fibre by @mariokratz.bsky.social
In his typical dispassionate and objective style, Mario Kratz discusses different aspects of fibre, a nutrient that has always fascinated me, mainly because of the promise that it is satiating.

How to Prevent or Reverse Insulin Resistance YouTube video by Nourished by Science

Insulin resistance is one of the key factors underlying type 2 diabetes and prediabetes. And even among people with normal glucose tolerance, many are insulin resistant.

To learn how you can determine whether - and why - you are insulin resistant, and what you can do about it:

Is the recommendation to take sterols or stanols an official recommendation?

Based on our research (admittedly 17 years old), I am concerned about the increase in blood sterol levels with sterol supplementation, and always considered stanols the safer choice.
