personally best approach would be to make a new UV map and just use that specifically for the checker texture (assuming you're baking it down afterwards)

multiple uvs opens up a whole world of possibilities!

im the type of guy in vrc to just run off into the void and not be seen for 20 minutes and then suddenly appear at your feet without warning

sometimes im tempted to try design some super big spooky evil drone for a vrc avatar but then i realize a tiny gremlin is a way better fit for me
