The Famine is depicted as a rider holding scales, dressed in rich robes and jewellery for he is the cause of the famine inflicted upon all living beings. He also holds cracked golden bowl and an empty Horn of Abundance - both representing the coming of poverty. There is a hole in his chest where the heart should be - an underline to his heartless actions. His dark horse is boney and his harness and hooves are golden in contract to the richness of his master. The horse is acting up like it's trying to shake off the Famine off it's back.

Narumi from Kaiju no8 pushes his hair back after slicing a kaiju in half. His custom weapon is supported on his shoulder, his power still activated . His eyes glow pink, and his body is outlined with his pink energy signature.

The protagonist of a pulp style detective story, Brigitte Doyle is the widow of a well-respected police officer. After being widowed she leverages her connection at the police station through her husband, and sets up her own PI business. The concept art shows her casual wear and outdoor wear. The casual wear being a peach toned house dress in 1940s styling. The outdoor wear includes a large lighr brown trench coat and hat. Her hair style is based on the victory roll style popularized during WW2.

The Femme Fatale of a pulp style detective story, Joan An-Heart is the widow of a wealthy business who inherited all his wealth after his death. People suspect that she killed her husband but no one could prove it, gaining her the nickname of "the Black Widow." The concept art shows her lounge wear which include a black top, long skirt, white rose brooch, two necklaces, a feathered cap, black high heels, as well as a cigarette holder that never leaves her finger. Her outdoors wear include a black trenchcoat with a fur collar, a hat with a veil over her face, a pipe replacing the cigarette holder, which also never leaves her finger unless she's pulling the trigger. Her face is based on the actress Anna May Wong.

The first anthology was so good! I read it with an online book club last year and still think about the stories.

The manuscript was prepared in summer of 2023. I can't even imagine how much more impactful and poignant a sequel would be now.
