Higher ed is slow to the party. Although the kiddos we will see in 10 years are moving on from AI, we are in the midst of debating AI policies and implementation. It's time to wake up!

It's all entertaining for a moment or two, but then, once the novelty wears off (quickly), it shows itself for the slop that it is.
The backlash is already happening at the elementary and secondary school level. Parents and teachers alike despise the AI instruction that schools tried to impose.

Claude? ChatGPT? Gemini? Grok? Fail. Fail. Fail. Fail. And we are supposed to trust AI for medical diagnoses and surgeries? Are you kidding me? "Vibe coding?" Get that shit away from me. Music creation? Art creation? Literature? No, no, and no.

Rant incoming: Let's just stop with the AI-is-going-to-take-care-of-everything nonsense. Please. Real-world AI has failed me everytime: HR chatbot can't answer a simple payroll question. Car insurance chatbot can't even confirm my account. Amazon? Bank? Credit card? Health insurance? Fail!

All of this! All of my parents’ close friends we called Aunt or Uncle, and it was the most natural and normal thing to do. Even when I became an adult, I continued to call them Aunt and Uncle. I would not have it any other way.
Wonderful article. Thank you for posting the link. Somehow I managed to miss it yesterday in the NYT.
Clearly, Mike Johnson is intimidated by other johnsons.
What's to weigh? It's a no.
It doesn't even matter what the proposal says. It's entirely unacceptable for the president to be cutting side-deals with universities.
Say no reflexively, and if he pulls your funds, sue him.

The only acceptable response to this preposterous proposal can only be, in the immortal words of Brigadier General Anthony McAuliffe at the Battle of the Bulge, "Nuts!"
