Weighty Friends, and the official account for Quakers in Britain, block Friends for wrongthink. Fine words, but our practice doesn’t correspond.

Lovely use of a favourite quote.
(Wonders why the United Reformed Church has a mosh pit)
Other facts that have not been widely reported include Harold's victory at the Battle of Hastings in 1066 and Napoleon's victory at Waterloo in 1815.
The judgment is here www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/u.... Para 103 reads: "For the reasons set out above, each of the three grounds of challenge fails. The
application for judicial review is therefore dismissed." GLP lost the case. That is why they are bringing an appeal.
Wondering if the brewery took any legal advice. Because the course they have taken is one that Sir Humphrey in "Yes, Prime Minister" would have described as "courageous".
Religious pacifists tend to assume that "just war" theory means something like, "war, in general, is justified". Not so. Just war theory sets a high bar before warfare can be morally legitimate.
Nice story though it may very well be apocryphal: I've heard various versions of this, with different alleged participants, all of my life.
No doubt the pro-Pangolins will block me now (see recent reposts)
There was literally a pangolin that flew combat sorties with the CIA in a dirty war in Laos that then died after drinking too much gin, so there’s at least one pangolin whose record is morally ambiguous
just the sweetest little pangolin you ever saw
fun fact: no pangolin has ever done a single thing wrong in the entire history of the world
my statute law society lecture on interpretation and audience is available online for enthusiasts. Thrill to my broad accent.
Another Quaker account blocked by @quaker.org.uk is @kaybaxter.bsky.social Very sad to see this. If we can't find a healthier way of handling differences within our own community, how can we be peacemakers to the wider world? Are we salt that has lost its savour?
@quaker.org.uk I see you are still blocking @sexmatters2quakers.bsky.social Shutting out a group of your own members like this is a terrible look, and no way to handle differences within our Society. It makes all the talk about looking for "kinder ground" sound very hollow. Please reconsider.
For serious reading, Kindle is not an option.
Not on my bingo card for 2026: knowing about the Avignon Papacy now politically relevant.
Interesting take on how AI is being received
Here's a good example. I've just been blocked by someone I've never interacted with. It turns out he's blocked everyone on this site who follows For Woman Scotland. And he's an academic philosopher specialising in epistemology!
Bluesky is dominated by voices that loudly preach inclusion & tolerance, yet systematically ban, block, mock or socially exile anyone who expresses dissenting views.
It is the opposite of inclusion and tolerance. It creates dangerous echo chambers where doubt and nuance is crushed.
In the morally inverted world of today's self-styled progressives, it seems that words can be "literal violence", while actual violence can be legitimate communication.
This week saw Professor Michael Wooldridge deliver our Michael Faraday Prize Lecture, exploring the gulf between popular expectations of what AI should be like and the realities of the LLMs that we use today. Watch the full lecture now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyyL0yDhr7I
On this delightful site, I find myself on a list called "Toxic": "Accounts which in the view of our moderators, present content of low or no societal value." Apologies in advance to anyone whose messages I repost.

Note to viewers: Women observe behaviour because it gives a lot more information about people than the words they say. They learn to do this from about age 13 onwards, because it's a crucial step in keeping themselves safe outside the home (and sometimes inside).
It's not particularly funny.
What is the US equivalent of Woolwich v IRC?

Kim Stanley Robinson, Aurora. A main character is spaceship’s computer system.
There are other ways to define trans people. Under Equality Act 2010, relevant protected characteristic (PC) is gender reassignment (as defined), not gender identity. Whatever you think about "gender identity", if you recognise some people have that PC then you recognise trans people exist.
