I think it’s hilarious that “high agency” has become synonymous with outsourcing work to very expensive calculators

Remember when Marvis seemed like a splurge

This is kind of how transit passes work in NYC now. Tap to pay (mindless) with the same card and you never pay for more than 12 rides in a 7-day period. I think it works great and any failure of micropayments is the fault of vendor greed, bad design, dark patterns, etc

The fandom menace: People, get a life! movie review (2009) | Roger Ebert A lot of fans are basically fans of fandom itself. It's all about them. They have mastered the "Star Wars" or "Star Trek" universes or whatever, but their

Roger Ebert’s savage and prescient takedown of fandom itself

“Extreme fandom may serve as a security blanket for the socially inept, who use its extreme structure as a substitute for social skills.”

I feel like raw with seeds removed makes a huge difference (like quartered with all the gooey stuff scooped out). Less watery, less bitter.

The move with sliced is good mayonnaise + salt

Have you made corn bread? I’m very curious about it but can’t get cornbread out of my head when I try to imagine what it’d taste like.

Cuomo is running a perfect campaign right now, he should keep doing exactly this and change nothing. And the new logo is just gorgeous

I have amassed a formidable hoard of corn cobs and plan on making corn stock. Looking for ideas on what to actually do with the corn stock (freezing for later use doesn’t count).

I don’t think it’s fair to compare Tim Cook’s ring-kissing to local businesses. Apple is one of the most valuable companies in *world*, and Tim Cook is participating in anticipatory obedience.

A better Tim (Snyder) wrote,
“Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. In times like these, individuals think ahead about what a more repressive government will want, and then offer themselves without being asked. A citizen who adapts in this way is teaching power what it can do.”

Hot take: the current era of consumer AI is the best it will ever be and we have 1, 2 years TOPS before enshittification runs its natural course.

I get that but Christian Siriano’s “mentorship” is so offensive to me I can’t make it through a full episode 🫣

Have you been to Hikari in Japantown? Bullet train sushi 🚄 it was my favorite casual meeting spot in SF and also seems to have survived pandemmy!

Having said that, even using it for scoring I didn’t love that a single workspace could only take up to 50% of my total screen real estate. What I’d ultimately prefer is one big monitor, one tiny monitor (like a more permanent version of iPad desktop extension).

I did two 24” LG’s for a couple years, with the idea that one side would be the work/focus side and the other would be for calendar, music player, videos, reference docs, etc. It was really useful for scoring films, but an annoyance for more typical computer work.

Most of them are on YouTube, there was a gap year for videos as the venue wanted an insane recording fee that year (something like $20k just to allow us to capture footage 🙄)

I think it’s ok as long as there’s a tinge of irony, but not in an attention-seeking way
