Press conference on federal funding of public education at risk. I’m sorry I missed this.
CT leaders, teachers sound alarm on $321M in federal cuts to education, more to come
I’ll say it again. Thank you, Jerald, for standing up for the public interest.
I have met with most of the cabinet nominees and have carefully watched their confirmation hearings.
After considering what’s at stake, I have voted against moving forward to the confirmation of Ms. Gabbard and Mr. Kennedy, and will be voting NO on their confirmations.
I think and hope that you’re right.
I can’t argue with that, or with your earlier sentiment. If we Democrats are going to try to lean the legislative table in our favor, we need to make as certain as possible that it won’t get shot down by the courts.
They tried this in New York. A court threw out the redistricting map. In the next election, five Democratic house seats in New York went Republican.
Headline.
Good. Keep going.
Last year, I called out the dangers of Project 2025 and the damage it’d do to our country.
Americans were assured the Trump team had no ties to it—then nominated one of its authors to lead OMB.
My view has not changed and I will be a hard NO on Mr. Vought.
I am pleased that the Town of Manchester is going ahead with the plan to improve Downtown. Manchester has a great Downtown that can and will be even better.

Democratic senators will hold the Senate floor all night long in opposition to the nomination of Russ Vought, an organizer of Project 2025, to head the OMB.
"Sen. Brian Schatz (D., Hawaii) said he would place a 'blanket hold' on all of President Trump’s State Department nominees ... until USAID again is allowed to operate normally and the administration ceases its 'authoritarian behavior.'"

Until they speak up*, it's safe to assume every CT Republican supports Trump's plan to raise your utility bill.
That includes Republican Jason Perillo, who is running for State Senate. The election is Feb 25th.

The President has a duty to take care that the laws are faithfully executed. But this is a faithless President, an administration filled with plutocrats and toadies, a Congress and SCOTUS that are cheering him on instead of providing oversight or accountability, and a press that’s… well, y’all know.
Manchester Board of Education - Monday, January 27. Superintendent Matt Geary presented his recommended fiscal 2026 budget.

'Prices at the pump' dominated the news when gas prices were going up. (Now .... when was the last time you saw a news segment filmed at a gas station?)
'Have you seen the price of eggs?' was taken as "people who really understand the country" insight circa Oct 2024. And now...
Black history is integral to American history. In CT & throughout the country, the stories, contributions, and legacy of Black Americans deserve to be – must be – celebrated and taught to each new generation.
Our Black Caucus is open to all and a great way to get involved: ctdems.org/blackcaucus
Sad.
Will be curious to see specific proposals to address special education funding.

He sold myriad, and often conflicting, fantasies to voters. In three weeks’ time, he’ll face reality. And many Trump voters will undoubtedly start to realize that he is not at all the person they thought they were voting for.

There's a very interesting SF novel by Harry Turtledove, Guns of the South, about white 20th century South Africans time-traveling to Civil War America to help out "guess which side" with weapons & tech. No idea what's made me think of that.
Debate over CT's 'fiscal guardrails' is getting heated. Here's why you should care

Why indeed?
RFKjr is a science denier & a grifter who only wants to make $$ off of people’s fears…kinda like the convicted 🍊🤡
Remember to call your senators tomorrow to tell them that he is unfit to be HHS secretary
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah.
Two of these would primarily affect higher education. Three - abolishing the Department of Education, and changes to School Choice and Title IX - could affect primary and secondary education.
