Literally big if true... A tomography study suggests that there is 5000 km3 of magma beneath Tuscana, Italy. The image is sketchy though.

Since April, most of JAMSTEC (the largest marine geoscience institute in the world) vessels can't depart for voyages because the oil prices are too expensive. Disastrous.

Slush flow sounds reasonable for me. It happens very often in My. Fuji, and is called "slush nadare" (avalanche) by many geologists and civil engineers, although an avalanche is a bit misleading word I think. It is a purely sedimentally reworking process, not magmatic.

Apparently, a dyke injection event is ongoing near Irabu Knoll, at the southern Okinawa Trough back-arc basin. (Hypocenters: JMA; Bathymetry: GEBCO, JAMSTEC, Japan Coast Guard)

In the beginning of 2020s, the humanity lost more than 10M people for the COVID-19. Then the war in Ukraine has consumed >1M people. Now wars are spreading to everywhere, and dictatorship is winning over the democracy. The 2020s is going to be the darkest era in this century. We all did wrong.

Yup, it’s what we called the Kalimantan slab that lies in the transition zone. Broke off north Borneo and Palawan, about 15 Myr ago!

Very interesting paper from China. They drilled two 10-km holes in 2025 and found hydrocarbon from that depth.

Where Volcanoes Form on Earth?
open.substack.com/pub/ikegami/...
Many textbooks are still stuck at the level of understanding from the formative era of plate tectonics—over 50 years ago. In this article, I organize where on Earth volcanoes occur.

I wrote this article in Japanese back in the New Year and now it is also available in English at my substack. I hope some people find it useful.
