The passing of Moya Brennan is a significant moment for Ireland.

Her voice, carved from the beauty of her native Donegal, is the essence of this country itself, intangible and undefinable. A beautiful artist taken too early. Much love and condolences to her family and friends.

The hardest album to discuss in many ways, and one of the most difficult times I have experienced. This is the 2012-2014 album Illuminations by ANÚNA . What began as an effort to celebrate 25 years of the group ended in a life-altering realisation.

Behind the Closed Eye was an extraordinary album, with a complex background that brought together inspiration, poetry, Francis Ledwidge, Jeff Buckley, death itself against the background of some of the darkest moments of The Troubles.

This is Cynara - probably the least well-known album ANÚNA and I have ever made. Revisiting this for ANÚNA40 in 2027 was hard
I must have been in a very dark place when I made Cynara.

Heavy stuff.

He is actually a howl. His stuff is deeply passionate and underestimated I think.

Regarding the debate about artists and musicans using AI generative tools. When methods were found to make jewellery quicker and cheaper, goldsmiths stopped training. Now there are very few. There will be no journey for gifted creators. We will diminish. It is inevitable.

Rónán is cool. And you are still wrong Alan
Thank you for the lovely comment nonetheless 😁

Never lived there and my brother isn't Pat. And really I should just chill as it's a hobby, like. Come on.

Therefore Elton John wrote no songs because Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics? You know it's ok to be wrong? Having an opinion does not automatically mean it is correct. I can assure you that you are misguided at best 😁 A testament to the Irish music education system...

God preserve us - the tempo and all the notes are different but it's the same piece... The words are traditional. The song is not. It's in multiple complex rhythms and bears NO resemblance to the traditional melody. Not even bothered to do any research and you have a "valid" opinion. Do better.

I am officially sick of this. If I was an Irish poet and wrote in Irish, my poetry would not be described as "traditional" or "folk". However, it appears to be acceptable to label my songs as folk music. And this isn't just outside of Ireland. Please make some effort, if it isn't asking too much.

Obviously you didn't do much searching.

No. It was written by me in 1995 on, a setting of an Irish language text. So it is not old unless 1995 is a long time ago for you ❤️

Any chance of crediting the composer? Takes a moment to do - it's me by the way 😕
