This judgement is being celebrated as a major victory in that regard with the judge ruling largely in favour of the applicants, calling for numerous changes to be made & being quite scathing of both the Department of Social Development & National Treasury at various points.

The SRD has remained in place since 2020 (with a brief termination in 2021) & has been a critical lifeline for the country's most vulnerable. During this time civil society orgs have had to campaign gov to extend & improve the grant noting issues about access, payments & the value of the grant
