Brooklyn stands as one of the world’s great cultural hubs, home to neighbors from countless countries, cultures, and faiths. That is why it is so important to hear directly from our community by meeting people where they are.

Yesterday, I met with constituents, elected officials, and community leaders from Community Board 14 as part of my listening session tour to discuss the pressing issues facing New York’s Ninth Congressional District.

Millions of American citizens have their reasons for voting by mail, and not a single one is Donald Trump or the federal government’s business.

He will fail, and so will his despicable effort to punish the people and communities who represent the true story of America, and not his sick, supremacist distortion.

His unprecedented decision to attend today’s oral arguments in the Supreme Court is nothing more than a deeply cheap intimidation tactic against a coequal branch of government, borne of the same desperation and disrespect for the law that have defined his presidency since Day 1.

And that is because the 14th Amendment’s promise of citizenship to all those born on our soil is unambiguous. But Donald Trump has never believed the Constitution should come before his prejudices.

Out of the ruins of the Civil War, birthright citizenship emerged as a foundation upon which this nation could rebuild stronger and more whole than before. It has faced increasingly hackneyed legal challenges rooted in bigotry, fear, or both in the two centuries since, and each time, it has endured.
