Yesterday was the first time I'd been to Clapham Junction and / or Waterloo & hadn't seen a class 455 EMU since 1984! Sadly the last ones were withdrawn a couple of weeks ago.
I did see one, however, at, of all places, Cockshute!

TBH I would prefer new trains! Taking a 4 coach train from the Midlands / North West via Birmingham to the South is always overcrowded.

I see there's a lot of promotion about the new XC Voyager refurb. Trouble is that XC have had the franchise since 2007 and this is the first major upgrade the Voyagers have had since then. It's taken 19 years!

Travelled on a TfW mk4 from Crewe to Shrewsbury at the weekend. It was a much smoother ride than the return on a brand new cl197 DMU!

Travelled from Crewe to Shrewsbury & back on the train yesterday. Out on a cl67 + Mk.4 set return on a cl197 unit. Nearly 30 years between the rolling stock & yet the Mk.4 set was a much better ride. Progress?

Withdrawn February 1987. I didn't know at the time, but I saw it at Crewe station on its final journey into the Works.
One cab did survive for a while after scrapping until it 'disappeared'. Rumour is it was nicked for scrap!
