Great to connect with fellow researchers in women’s health at this year’s #oegp2026 conference and to be part of such an inspiring symposium on hormonal transition periods across the female lifespan and their associations with brain processes and mental health 🧠✨

If you’ve ever attempted a meta-analysis, you’ll know that authors generally do a poor job reporting statistics. If you do this well, you’ll improve your chances of your work being included in a future meta-analysis.

…and data collection is still ongoing. We’ll share a fuller update once the study is complete and we’ve conducted confirmatory analyses - likely within the next year 😊

Our plots currently suggest that in regularly cycling indiv. with varying degrees of premenstrual symptoms, perceived daily stress may follow a cyclical pattern, peaking in the late-luteal phase, with affective symptoms rising around the same time window. ‼️ note: these observations are preliminary..

Exciting news: the TIDE study, my study about premenstrual exacerbation (PME) of depression, has started!
In the coming year, we aim to include 60 participants with depression and a regular menstrual cycle to examine the prevalence and trajectories of PME in depression. 📈👩🏼‍🏫

What did we find? 🔍

Our review points to a relevant association between stress and premenstrual symptomatology:
🔺Higher stress is linked to more severe symptoms
⤴️ Stress peaks during the luteal phase in individuals with PMS/PMDD
⚡ Trauma history associated with more than double the odds of PMS/PMDD

Associations between premenstrual symptoms and (traumatic) stress: a systematic review and three multilevel meta-analyses | The British Journal of Psychiatry | Cambridge Core Associations between premenstrual symptoms and (traumatic) stress: a systematic review and three multilevel meta-analyses

How are #stress and premenstrual symptoms connected?
And are those with a #trauma history more likely to have #PMS or #PMDD? 🌩️

Our systematic review & three meta-analyses combine evidence from 66 studies to explore these questions.

Excited our work is finally out! ✨
