Hello again, Julian. The entry fee, which is comparable to fees charged by many other presses, covers them prize money and the cost to produce the books. We assure you that not a single person here at the press is growing rich off of entry fees and none of us are sitting on Tetrapack fortunes.

Hi, Julian. Not sure if you saw this info on our Submittable page, but we do offer fee waivers to authors who are not able to pay the entry fee. We also host an open reading period in June. Cheers!
