I find this one of the most contemptible actions of the British Empire. Merchant Marine were vital to the war effort but at the end Chinese Sailors were just deported to China. A doc

This is a shame.
At the Post Office Inquiry there were hints that privilege was used to support the withholding of evdence.
They should add stipulations to prevent that.
It will be interesting to see what the part 2 report discloses

I think she has a point about people changing their story. It is said the full truth did not appear until people claimed their pensions. They feared the English would come back as they really did in 1812

The way she counts it, there should have been four riders. There were three sent from Boston and one picked on the way. There were more than this, as the alarm reached some towns, they sent a dispatch to other towns to execute a prepared plan

I think Lucy Worsley's "fibs" is showing on pbs and causing a little controversy. She takes a version of history taught at grade school but that is not how modern historians look at it.

Ten cases a day - how 'blitz courts' could tackle the Crown Court backlog The scheme, to fast-track cases and to cut the court backlog, is being expanded in England and Wales.

'Blitz' courts are not a new idea. At the Old Bailey past century's people would be lined up in queues and their trial would take about 5 mins. Many didn't even realise they had a trial, they were branded, transported or hung. Jury pious perjury helped some

He also discusses how the innocent are coerced into guilty pleas. A loved one might be named as an accomplice but they will drop that if you plead guilty. I've heard of that before. Probably used in the UK as well

I like how he just gets the transcripts and evidence (he has no idea how difficult and expensive that is in the UK). He deals with Conviction Integrity Units, now believed common in the US. He uses Grand Jury subpoenas, I didn't know how the defense can use them

JD Vance arrives in Hungary to back Orbán's re-election bid The US vice-president's visit is the latest show of White House support for the Hungarian leader.

At least he's open about the purpose of his trip. I can't help thinking this would be illegal in the US but I don't have the time to check. Is he what the US call an "agent" in the INS?
It shows that immigration in the EU should be a federal department!
