We all know the saying: "April showers bring May flowers." It gives the impression that April is a very rainy month. But does that perception hold water?
The historic heat dome that just broke hundreds of monthly records may have serious consequences for the upcoming wildfire season.

The evening of the blizzard. A house, barely visible through the haze from blowing snow, has a faint glow from the lights on inside. A streetlight glows in the background, shining light on blowing snow.
The morning after the blizzard. A window with snow blown onto the window ledges outside, covering 1/4 of the window, with more snow dotting the rest of the window.
My favourite part about #blizzards in the #north: lighting a candle, cuddling up with a blanket and a good book, and listening to the winds as they rock these buildings on stilts.
Nature is beautiful.

Arctic air will be on a southward move next week to bring Canada a major pattern changeup, a healthy reminder that winter is just around the corner.

Have you ever tried the Windy app? Popular with people who fish & sail. Current wind gusts can be found on theweathernetwork.com. And if you know your METARS - you can get current & past 24 & 48 hours info which includes wind & gusts (along with precip & temps) from airports. YYZ is T.O.
This is just example BTW. There are other explanations - evapotranspiration; blocking patterns; etc but start with the wind & go from there.
The prevailing wind in our latitudes is westerly. The wind, when it flows down the Rocky Mountains, which are to your west is a drying wind. For AB to get moisture, ideally you need a wind from another direction. An east wind can bring copious rain or snow as the wind is now going UP the mountain

Today is Heather Hiscox's last day on CBC Morning Live. While Heather will be sincerely missed from Coast to Coast, to Coast, it's a certitude she will bring her character calm, charm, wit, charisma, and scintillating smile to whatever she does next.
Thank you, Heather!
