The U.S. West Coast groundfish fishery, once declared a federal disaster in 2000, has fully recovered as of 2025-2026, with major stocks rebuilt decades ahead of schedule due to catch limits, habitat protection, a 2003 vessel buyback, and a 2011 Trawl Catch Share program.
