What Does ‘Human-Centred AI’ Mean? doi.org/10.3390/bs16...

Thank you to Andy Wills www.andywills.info for inviting me to his SI (Advanced Studies in Human-Centred AI) — and furthermore, for being up for me completely disagreeing with so many mainstream views on HCAI! Great reviews too.

Got bugs? Here’s how to catch the errors in your scientific software Computer scientists share their advice for ensuring that your scientific software does what it’s supposed to do.

Commercial software can contain 50+ errors per 1000 lines of code; scientific software, written by relative newbies, is more error prone. I spoke to @tracykteal.bsky.social @amyko.phd @weecology.bsky.social & more to learn best debugging practices @nature.com 🧑‍💻 🐜 ❌ 🧪 www.nature.com/articles/d41...

“we learned the lawyers from the other side write the judge’s filings, write her rulings. so i guess… starting to think it’s a set deal.”

i think he’s referring to the extremely normal practice of the judge asking one of the attorneys to prepare a draft of the proposed order lmao

mia keeps explaining “the economy” to me but i’m increasingly convinced these episodes are an elaborate bit and she’s actually just deep into some extremely niche fandom where they write horror fic about banking because this all sounds very made up!!!

there is literally one proven policy to reduce traffic congestion long-term.

it’s congestion pricing. and Trump just spent a whole year trying to illegally scrap it in New York City

We live in a reality where Pac-Man, probably the most famous video game character of all time, is known in all regions by a name that was not what he was intended to be called in the 1st place

Everyone knows of Puck-Man but in the West he was going to be Snapper

The Infowars news is funny, yes. But more importantly, it is an outright rebuke of Alex Jones' evil.

It's testament to the strength and resilience of the Sandy Hook families who survived this bullshit for more than a decade as well as the Onion, which didn't give up on this for the last 18 months.

Kill Yr Substack | Jason Cosper I’ve been tired of Substack platforming white supremacists, Nazis, neo-confederates, and so many of the worst people on the internet for a long time now. So I made a browser extension for all of us.

I got tired of Substack platforming Nazis, white supremacists, and convicted rapists, so I made a browser extension.

Kill Yr Substack intercepts every Substack link and redirects it to `archive.is`. They never see your traffic. You still get to read the thing tho.

💯 agreed, and probably we don't need to pay OpenAI for Whisper.

Apologies for the Substack, but interesting story here icymi about the Overcast app dev running his own local "server" of Mac Minis to do real time transcripts in app with Apple Intelligence

I think this falls under 3 and I'm guessing you're familiar with it, but Cizek's "nothing in behavior makes sense without (understanding brain) evolution" seems like an important nuance to add -- he def talks about cogsci inheriting hand-me-down terms from psych

Recently have been putting a lot of thought into what norms govern the movement between folk concepts and scientific concepts. What concepts are resistant to operationalization? Really interesting thread from a cognitive scientist on what concepts we can have “theories of.”

The tariff refund portal goes live today. Maryland businesses should review eligibility and apply as soon as possible.

My team will be watching closely to ensure the process works as intended, and every Maryland business gets the money back they are owed.

The Onion plans to turn Infowars into a comedy site with satirical echoes of the fringe conspiracy theories that Mr. Jones is known for. Tim Heidecker, one of the comedians behind “Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!” on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim, has been hired to serve as “creative director of Infowars.” He said he initially plans to parody Mr. Jones’s “whole modus operandi.”

Mr. Heidecker has been working on his impression of Mr. Jones. But eventually, when that joke gets old, Mr. Heidecker said that he hoped to turn Infowars into a destination for independent and experimental comedy.

“I just thought it would be just a beautiful joke if we could take this pretty toxic, negative, destructive force of Infowars and rebrand it as this beautiful place for our creativity,” Mr. Heidecker said in an interview. During a recent trip to Philadelphia, he traveled to the Liberty Bell to film a video in character as the new creative director of Infowars.
