Today marks the 5th annivesary of my first ever stream on Twitch, and to celebrate the occasion, I shared my thoughts on how much I have grown, the people I've met (some of whom became some of my closest friends), and the adventures we've all shared together along the way.

Man, 51, fatally shot by federal officers in Minneapolis amid immigration crackdown: Associated Press | CBC

Message to fellow journalists (and anyone claiming to be one): do not “police-involved shooting” executions in broad daylight.

Obfuscating language like that is completely journalistically unnecessary and, even worse, sanitizes reality.

Words have meaning. Use the right ones.

“I watched your prime minister yesterday. He wasn’t so grateful,” Trump said today.

“They should be grateful to us, Canada. Canada lives because of the United States. Remember that, Mark, the next time you make your statements.”

That feels like a threat. Bully behaviour.

This is a dangerous and irresponsible response.

Cheering the illegal abduction of a foreign head of state and celebrating U.S. control over another country is wrong.

Canada cannot pick & choose when international law applies. If the rules only matter when it’s convenient, they don’t protect anyone

I should mention that I condemn the Maduro regime; the international community agrees that its legitimacy is dubious at best. But this kind of aggression in defiance of international law from the US should concern all of us.

Especially Alberta.

Because Canada will never be the 51st state.

Striking Alberta teachers forced back to work by fast-tracked legislation, notwithstanding clause | CBC News Bill 2 passed early Tuesday morning after a long night for lawmakers in the provincial legislature. Premier Danielle Smith’s government introduced the legislation the day before.

I said a couple of weeks ago that it was only a matter of time before Alberta tests the limits of the notwithstanding clause.

If you thought your rights were safe, they’re not. This government is more than happy to trample and smother them.

Mark Carney Is a Very Demanding Boss - Macleans.ca His elbows-up enthusiasm won him the election. Now he’s governing like a Bay Street exec.

This past week on Politically Factual, I talked about the history of the notwithstanding clause, how it came about, and its regular abuse by Conservative governments.

Next week, we’re going to dig deep on Mark Carney and discuss the two biggest candidates in the federal NDP leadership race.

Heather’s entry into the NDP leadership race is, in my honest opinion, extremely exciting. I’m excited to hear more about where she intends to take the party, and how she can take on the Liberals and the Conservatives.

Jimmy Kimmel is a symptom of a huge problem: a concentrated media ecosystem beholden to corporate whims.

Canadian media struggles with this too.

Consider Global News' management making Ben Mulroney a top political host.

It's a worryingly partisan decision, especially given what I just uncovered:

Over the past 24 hours, I’ve received many messages from constituents asking whether I stood for Monday’s ovation in the House of Commons connected to the murder of American podcaster Charlie Kirk. The answer is no, I did not stand. Neither did many of my Liberal colleagues.

Let me be clear: I am strongly opposed to political violence in all its forms. I am also strongly opposed to hate speech and discrimination, which unfortunately permeated Mr. Kirk’s work. Furthermore, his violent death in the United States has only led to escalating violent rhetoric here in Canada. We have seen intensified hate speech and threats, harassment campaigns stoked by public officials, and organized mobs trying to destroy the careers of fellow Canadians. The injustice of what befell him last week should not be used to excuse or ignore any of this.

Ignoring the harms that hate speech and harassment inflict on vulnerable communities means abandoning those who fear for their safety in the face of that rhetoric. I will not stand by while Canadians feel dehumanized by violent rhetoric, and threatened by the political movements and actors that wield it.

Oh trust me, we’re going to talk about this on tomorrow’s episode of Politically Factual. This is ludicrous because while we denounce political violence, it is unnecessary to give an ovation for someone who also spread hateful rhetoric.
