On the topic of user data privacy, I downloaded my tiktok data. There was a file "off tiktok activity" it's a history of every time tiktok acquired data about me from a third party. Like every company I've ever interacted has a profile for me and sells that data. This is not just a tiktok issue

The same security concerns with the CCP stealing data via an app, is hypothetically possible with any internet enabled hardware manufactured in China.
Maybe don't put national security info on your phone, and leave me alone to waste time watching craft videos.

Pass laws protecting internet user data and restrict access to apps/platforms in non-compliance. 30 years of easy to access public internet, and we still have inadequate laws around data privacy. There's no excuse

Literally all the security issues that Tiktok can potentially pose, are things that Meta actually enabled to happen in 2016.
The issue is not individual apps. The issue is a lack of data ptivacy regulation and regulated platform responsibility.

So yeah, the app had problems, but the ban does not fix those problems, because congress isn't interested is passing internet user data safety laws, this is about restricting competition.
