i respect season 2 of the pitt for saying "ignoring your depression & trauma doesn't make you the sympathetic hero, it makes you a problem in the fucking workplace"

academia is a great field if you want to be insanely jealous of someone who fucking hates their job
good morning to everybody except the people who laid the foundation of our current hellscape by being smugly antiwoke during obama 2 / trump 1 i'll never forgive you
plus there are lots of mobility devices that can make use of bike infrastructure! and disabled people are rarely drivers to begin with!!!

genuine q have people who believe "things used to be made higher quality" (an opinion i am inclined towards myself) thought about this
Waymo is not the solution to the US traffic safety crisis
Per-capita fatalities are a function of per-mile fatality rates by mode AND number of miles traveled on that mode
Improving sa fety requires both increasing safety per-mile AND shifting trips to safer modes

(scrolling Bluesky) I reject the premise. I reject the premise. Granted. I reject the premise. Not my fetish. Granted. I reject the premise. Funny. I reject the premise.
It is really frustrating that this will be viewed as a win for liberals when it is honestly a win for conservatives (and a national embarrassment) that the Court granted cert to begin with.
bleak
I don’t love how every antisocial aspect of Twitter that gets replicated over here is then treated as a unique facet of Bluesky’s culture. Dogpiling is a Twitter thing and it’s still happening exponentially more on X than here

A freshly installed separated bike lane next to the memorial for a 2 year old killed by a driver at 4th and Channel St in San Francisco
Another view of the new bike lane and narrowed vehicle lanes, facing north.
DIRECT ACTION GETS THE GOODS: Turns out there WAS room for more safety improvements at 4th and Channel St, as the community-installed curb extension has been officially replaced with a separated bike lane. This is a start, but we need MORE here and across the city.
I don't think people fully appreciate how apocalyptic things are for US science. I haven't had any new funding since 2024, but I'm still ok since typical grants are for three years. This means next year I will be completely out of funding and will have to fire everyone in the lab. It's not great.

i somewhat recently realized that my childhood harry potter obsession was like 60-70% fascination with british culture, which i found exotic, and didn't realize was not fictional
subway ad that says "your idea could be live by the time you reach your stop"
as a culture we have really given "ideas" way too much credit. ideas are a dime a dozen. they happen all the time. the magic is way more in the doing, and the doing's diminished stature is linked to lack of respect for labor and, more recently, skill and expertise.
