As the pressure builds over the coming 48 hours, and as the confusion increases prices and undermines confidence his mental state will deteriorate. I expect more of this to come. The problem is Iran has so much leverage - mines and area denial is more effective than rhetoric and sabre rattling.

Govt line today is that they can’t believe how bad their own vetting process is, a vetting process they themselves repeatedly pointed to during the Mandelson affair, a process they’re now saying they were ignorant about. That they didn’t understand it, nor sought to.

Suboptimal

I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.

Just sobbed hardest I have since my mom died in 2020.

She missed these trials by a few months.

One of most ruthless cancers. Hard to fathom that maybe she'd still be here.

I feel such a hole inside.

In case you're wondering if we should fund mRNA research instead of another stupid war ... yes.

Reports of a third attempted arson attack on Jewish targets in North London this week. It's getting really scary and more people need to start taking it seriously.

That Trump post is a clear expression of genocidal intent. Clear cut case with zero caveats.

Anyone who contributed to this event - the politicians and journalists who normalised him or submitted to his narratives, around the world - should hang their fucking heads in shame. They've put us in the most dangerous geopolitical situation for a generation and left a people at risk of genocide.

Maybe he'll do it. Maybe he won't. He is an insane old man motivated only by hate and bitterness. His intellect leaves him constantly defeated but his emotions are too primitive to handle that defeat without escalation. Who knows.

You can still be shocked can't you, even after years of this shit. That sentence chilled me to my bones. To see an American president say that. To see him boast about it.

Telling juxtaposition on two pages of the FT. One story about how amazing the US's new AI military tech is and the other about planners/politicians entirely failed to realise what Iran would do to fight back.

Humans still matter...

Usually it’s when you have a set of objectives and those objectives have been accomplished. Not whatever the fuck this is. bsky.app/profile/atru...

Wow. Some people need to understand we don’t all like the same stuff. Weird.

It is absolutely insane that the US appears to have targeted desalination plants first – putting them onto the board. Iran seems to have already retaliated against one in Bahrain. This is one of the most obvious ways this could spiral.

What a thread.

Hitting desalination plants is so bad. Not just evil but strategically incomprehensible. Without desalination 75% of the entire population of the Middle East will be refugees. Israel and Kuwait depend on desalination for 90% of their water and other Middle East states aren’t far behind.

Ha. Hope this is said in jest. You explained very well why it wasn’t for you. Even though for me, it is one of the best TV series ever made.

The Wire was one of the best shows I have ever watched but then I love ‘earthy’ realism. Great plot and evolving story. Love some of the characters as well on all sides: Bunk, Lester, Stringer, Omar etc. but I didn’t like Succession. One storyline & very dislikable characters. Enjoyed the convo tho.

Just fascinating to see Blair, a man whose reputation was ruined by the Iraq war, advocate joining a war that is exponentially stupider and more chaotic. How is it possible to learn nothing from the worst mistake of your life?

Hello from haulage where tomorrow I'm phoning every customer to jack up their rate cards which otherwise would last for the year. Cheers Don, useless wanker.

Just when there were signs the UK economy was turning a corner, Trump does something else to absolutely fuck it. And then he has the gall to question whether we're a good ally.

Perhaps if either of them possessed a trace-element of strategic foresight, rather than a jumble of nasty intuitions, they wouldn't get themselves into this kind of situation.

I wonder if Farage and Badenoch are having a little think about whether they should have been so gun-ho about supporting this war. You sure that's going to be a popular long-term position pal?

I thought this was a joke, but "Ms Badenoch has ranked MPs based on how well they are performing on X" is an actual quote from this article.

Cor, sure would feel great right now if we were self-sufficient in renewable energy, and laughing at all the rubes reliant on global oil supplies. We'd have a bit of a swagger in our step today.

Either they didn’t think about the effect of the invasion on oil and gas prices or they did and didn’t care. I wrote a paper once distinguishing malice, recklessness, negligence, and incompetence. Sometimes you get them all at once.
