Just realized I need to grab a stack of dominos to use for my theta sequence lecture. Put dominos in a line upright, push on one end, they all fall one way. Push on opposite end, they fall other way. Can use to talk about SWR replay too, since if they're too apart, they won't fall, just like no STDP

Trump administration drops court fight to cap NIH payments for research overhead costs The Trump administration will not be asking the Supreme Court to take up its fight to slash NIH support for research indirect costs

Oh good, Universities can continue to educate doctors and cure diseases, because why would that ever have been in doubt in a modern civilization.

The Discovery of the Hippocampal Place Cells This paper describes the events leading up to the discovery of the place cells in 1971 for which the author received the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine in 2014, together with May-Britt and Ed...

This first person history by John O'Keefe of the discovery of place cells is a must read.

This whole special issue is full of gems. It's edited by my PhD advisor Michael Hasselmo. It's filled with first person accounts of famous discoveries. Fantastic idea.

I take it more literally than that actually and argue that by understanding the organizing principles (such as context) that guide neural state space, we can purposely manipulate those things to improve our cognition.

Me using neural state space to teach people how to improve their lives.

BTW, this is data from our lab showing the brain keeping track of time, so it's a literal neural timeline behind me.

We are a rich enough country to be funding 37% of all basic research proposals, not just considering "the best" 37% and then maybe only funding 12% in the end.
