youtu.be/3Vvb1J2srRs?... Well that settles it. “The department’s security team are extremely professional and experienced people. They have a live dialogue with UKSV. The risks that were identified were ones that they felt they understood well and could manage.” #OllyRobbins #Mandelson #Starmer

The IMF say, in their latest data, that the UK economy is now the 5th largest in the world again, over taking India.
In October 2022 the IMF said the UK economy was overtaken by India, putting the UK in 6th place ( in the middle of Truss as PM) and the UK has remained there since then.

Just not true. Many are not attacking him, but asking words to the effect of 'how can we stop this sort of thing happening again?'.
If only there were a way to filter out anonymous accounts. If you won't put your name behind it, I don't want to hear it in the public domain. Needs to end - stat. Social media isn't discerning enough to operate Chatham House Rules
'Attitudes' understates the events to an extraordinary degree.
If you're a woman the film, at least, is less appealing
Overall The Moon-Spinners is lighter, more of a holiday read. Circe is angsty but lyrical and cathartic. (I went to Crete for my 40th last year and took old favourite 'The Moon-Spinners' for the friends with me - which they absolutely adored - and 'Circe' for myself.)
The Moon-Spinners (by Mary Stewart) is better - one of my favourite books ever. I'm a third of the way through Circe now; it's very good but The Moon-Spinners has more of a sense of place, is more lyrical and more gripping. It wears its mythical references and knowledge much more lightly.
The Moon-Spinners
I also punctuate appropriately. Maybe written communication is out of your depth?
Ah the ad hominem insult. Hilarious. Totally devoid of any logical validity. You'll see I put my name where my words are rather than hide behind a screen name - suggest you do the same.
The FO makes the decision on whether developed vetting is approved (see rest of my thread for deets). Ciaran Martin also said so on WATO.
Developed vetting is always on the basis of whether the risks can be managed, and whether benefits outweigh risks. The reporting on this has been extremely poor.
There must be a security interest in blurring the boundaries around Mandelson's vetting. That doesn't necessarily mean anyone has acted illegally/unethically in the appointment process.
Totally perplexed by the media furore about #Mandelson again. The Foreign Office is the decision-maker. Ministers aren't informed of the details.
TV industry culture needs to learn that vulnerability is not opportunity. (Unless maybe you're in sport or a just war of fairly evenly-matched sides.)
Electricity dashboard, showing 5.8% fossil fuels, 77% renewables, 16.9% other sources, 4.2% interconnectors
It's a bit gusty out there, but on the plus side, the UK is currently running on 77% renewable electricity right now. 🎉🎉💨💨
Yay nature!

Sandbrook basically says words to effect 'it's locker room talk' [act. 'bore at the golf club'; 'few too many drinks']. Sandbrook needs to look into history of scientific ideas. Unless he's doing Olusoga's technique of never rounding on anyone until he's at the final table, it's beyond the pale.
Of course ICE has all the makings of a volunteer paramilitary group - members may be paid but they still volunteer for it; there are reports (will confirm) that there are many January 6-ers in ICE... I was actually goldfishing in the shower in exasperation...
Can't believe how naive Dominic Sandbrook sounds on #TheRestIsPolitics. Of course Trump's a fascist. Of course he subscribes to the 'might is right' ideology. It not being complicated doesn't mean it's not an ideology.

All of the acting was great. The kids were great actors too -
so rare at that age that they must have been really well directed and produced.
*For the cynics out there. I like the poster and the life lessons (more please! - Land of Do As You Please/Land of Take What You Want...). The second rendition of the song would've benefited from a minute more adventuring in the Land of Spells beforehand.
(My pre-existing warmth for the enterprise - greater than Kermode's - also balances out my awareness of artistic licence taken wrt the original texts, which I acknowledge is necessary for film's narrative requirements.)
This is pretty bang-on: m.youtube.com/watch?v=l2gK... #MagicFarawayTree
Maybe the resounding success of this film could get them a bigger budget and they could try Andy Serkis-style motion capture [facial only]? [But then maybe they've already tried that and it lacked sincerity.]
Moonface in the books resembles the moon. I wonder - could magic stay with T as an adult when he looks up at the moon, and sees his childhood friend winking back at him - in echoes of first film? Also in echoes of poetry and song the world over... #MagicFarawayTree
Potential SPOILER ALERT to follow for the #MagicFarawayTree: [thoughts for future films]
After watching, I can understand the stylistic choices for #Moonface - allowing #NonsoAnozie to portray sincere, nuanced emotion. Nonso captures the character's combination of warm-heartedness and ego so well. It's a marvellous performance. #MagicFarawayTree
