The backstory here is that the Squamish people of what is now Vancouver were illegally dispossessed of this land a century ago. They sued, got their land back, and are using their sovereignty to ignore local zoning rules and build 6,000 new homes over the objections of nearby wealthy NIMBYs.

Hi, it's me again.
It's VEDA (Vlog Every Day in April) time!
Yes, it has been four years since I last did it. And yes, I've moved to a different country TWICE in that time, but ...
yeah, I got nothin'. Enjoy day one of VEDA!

Jonny has always been a delight and a source of great info. Here's his awesome takedown of the Claude code leak. It's entertaining and informative and you'll love it if you're into this stuff. neuromatch.social/@jonny/11632...
Further: Abolish the Department of Homeland Security.
Fun facts:
-DHS is only 23 years old.
- Its creation stripped 180,000 government employees of their union rights and other civil service protections.
- No one called the US “the homeland” before George W Bush.
what if we got a 100% blockrate on it. what if they designed an AI and we unanimously said "nope"

Even that isn't quite right - in an SSD, you can have the identical memory chips and quantity, but one drive can give you twice the storage as another because one is using TLC and the other QLC.
But for most hard drives of the same product line, the difference is just the number of platters.
I'm sorry. It was clear that Sammy was loved and I feel as though your kitty knew this.
Also, yes, I'm still alive. My body is recovering from what I think was an overdose of potassium and my brain is just an utterly fried anxious mess.
But I helped a kitty, so that's nice.
Anyone have any good suggestions on how to make an Android phone into an easy-to-use document scanner?
Yes, I can just hold it and take a photo, but I mean something stable where I have no blur, rigged up with a tripod or something for stability, things like that.
Fun fact: I moved from the US to Norway. My taxes increased by... seven percent.
In exchange, I no longer had a 670 USD/month health insurance payment.
Ignoring literally every other benefit it was a boon to my finances from that perspective. The cost of living being higher wasn't, but still.
Okay. I think it is my turn to help.
Please, save your Sammy.
O cool The hypothesis that the elite were trying to segrigate trans people from society purely to keep us as sex slaves was real, but only for trans women since they see trans men as undesirable for sex and want them eliminated which is EXACTLY THE POLICIES AND RHETORIC WE'RE SEEING HAPPEN RIGHT NOW
I have a new phone - the Honor Magic V5. Foldable, so this is all a new experience to me.
Any suggestions on apps that really work well with this form factor?
There is going to be a general strike on January 23. Make sure you don't cross the picket line.
Discord wants to know how you feel about AI.

It’s cute when non-Americans think we can just leave the country and move somewhere else to escape all this, as if their governments haven’t also made their immigration processes just as cruel and slow.
I actually had one of those "specific circumstances" and it was STILL a huge amount of planning and preparation and paperwork.
Americans really under-estimate how much work it is to do this, if it is feasible at all.
Microsoft is so fucking stupid.
Microsoft renamed Microsoft Office to Microsoft 365 Copilot App
I'm not joking
Do you know what a wheel of cheese with a small portable MP3 player in front with cables sticking out of it and a mini USB cord behind it looks like on an X-Ray machine?
The TSA halted everyone going through security and started freaking out.
A good laugh was had after, but... yeah. Cheese.
When I was living in Madison (Wisconsin, US, for those that might not be from near there) I was flying to see family for the holidays one year. Naturally, I brought cheese with me to give to family and friends. And, as a techie, I carried a lot of electronics in my backpack as well.

Wait. It's real? I assumed it was satire. I ASSUMED IT WAS SATIRE! Is life... satire now?
My Note20 Ultra Whizbang edition is still in my hands as I reply. The only reasons I have for upgrading are that I need a phone with up-to-date security updates.... and my battery is starting to show its age. So... five years?
Spotify is garbage on every count: Its treatment of artists, its ICE advertising, the CEO's investment in military AI, its leading role in the commodification and AI slopification of music, its terrible audio quality—you name it.
So I quit, and put together a complete guide to getting off Spotify:
Eh, why not ask here.
Are foldable phones worth it as both a phone and a tablet replacement?
My phone is beyond end-of-support (which is important to me) and my tablet is starting to have hardware issues. They both need replacing soon and I didn't know if a foldable is a viable option.

A *huge* vaccine victory. I've been writing on this for years; Australia has seen remarkable progress in cervical cancer prevention with the HPV vaccine. I love seeing science triumph like this.
