Well, to be fair, this is in a historical district, so they are legally required to make the building fit in with its surroundings

I’ll be willing to start discussions of whether the neighborhood is full only once we reach Hong Kong levels of density

How I wish we had someone like Mamdani who actually does what he says he cares about

Why is a community meeting required to build a 3 flat along an arterial street? Should be allowed by right

This is an old thread, but I’d like to add 5th Ave from Francisco to Madison to the list, along with Monroe from 5th Ave to Francisco. Then we’d need to see development incentivized along this segment of 5th Ave, and it’d become a really nice space right in the center of East Garfield Park

That project wasn’t likely to be completed in the next few years anyways, so that means there’s plenty of time to convince him of the merits of the project to get it back on track

But we’ll be left with a segment of bike lane that ends intersecting with a wide non-bike-friendly street, but being cut off just half a mile before it would intersect with the busiest bike corridor in the city.

Exciting to see buildings being built over here, East Garfield Park gets a pretty decent rate of construction, but you don’t see a lot in West Garfield Park

There is no practical need to have a 0-60 speed below 7 seconds

I’d love to see Lasalle from Jackson and Adams pedestrianized, surrounded by historical buildings with the Board of Trade building at the terminus, a Lasalle Plaza would quickly become an iconic Chicago destination.

Also, the cars have lower Wacker and lower lower Wacker, can we have the top layer?

Blue Island between Laflin and 21st in Pilsen
Maybe 53rd from Lake Park to Blackstome in Hyde Park?
A pedestrianized Taylor between Western and Oakley in Tri-Taylor would be really charming, you could also extend it to Ogden

I didn’t realize at the time it was him until I saw him post pictures from the event, and then I realized he was sitting at my table, 2 seats away from me

Chicago once had nearly 1 million more residents. To call Chicago full is a joke.

(Let’s get Chicago’s population back to 3.6 million!)

I unfortunately had to crop the last 30 seconds out since Bluesky only takes videos up to 3 minutes, but I also have it uploaded to YouTube if you want the full version: youtu.be/H7Iy0fTk774?...

A view overlooking Union Park, showing a lot of the new Fulton Market/West Loop towers

To be fair, this low rise foreground area in this photo has grown quite a bit taller, with numerous ~30 story buildings having risen here in the past few years. A few more towers have been/are being built since the Google earth screenshot, with numerous others planned

Now if only we could access it better by removing the highway that creates a barrier with so much of the lakefront…

It’s hard to imagine the this intersection area of the river without the River Point tower and the new Wolf Point Towers, it’s really become quite a highlight of the city. Same with thinking of before the riverwalk was built. Things like these have quickly become ingrained in our concept of the city

As always, @mikesimmonsil.bsky.social seems to be doing great work. Wish he could have won the IL-09 election, but I’m certain he will continue to work hard for us

I stayed there a few years ago, I wanted to explore the building, being an interesting security, but ended up unintentionally getting in trouble with security. Apparently I set off a whole bunch of alarms by walking through seemingly accessible and open hallways
