Quoting from Justice Roberts in a recent decision

Quoting from Justice Roberts in a recent decision

Chief Justice Roberts (2007): “The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race.”

Justice Kavanaugh (2025): ethnicity “can be a 'relevant factor' when considered along with other salient factors” in immigration stops.

American kids are less likely to reach adulthood than foreign peers • Stateline American kids are less likely to reach adulthood compared with foreign peers

The world’s biggest economy by GDP is failing its children, and this administration responds by cutting Medicaid, killing pediatric research, decreasing vaccine access, and failing to regulate firearms - despicable.

Some excellent, timely moral clarity from @mattwynia.bsky.social et al. “There has never been a more urgent moment in recent US history for health professionals to meet their obligations of public advocacy.”

Blog - Do Not Pervert Justice - Bioethics Today Do Not Pervert Justice.

“No theories of the best allocation of health care resources suggest when hard choices have to be made about a budget, identify the poorest of all Americans, pregnant women, the disabled, the frail elderly, and children, and yank their…access coverage. None.”

I’m so excited to be part of this issue, especially next to all the patients and families who shared their own stories of adventures in navigating the electronic health record.

Booker: "I confess that I have been imperfect. I confess that I've been inadequate to the moment. I've confess that the Democratic Party has made terrible mistakes that gave a lane to this demagogue. I confess we all must look in the mirror and say 'we will do better.'"

Trump’s U.S.A.I.D. Cuts Hobble Earthquake Response in Myanmar While China, Russia and other nations have rushed emergency response teams to the devastated country, the U.S., once a leader in foreign aid, has been slow to act.

Another example of our cruelty. “China, Russia and India have dispatched emergency teams and supplies to earthquake-ravaged Myanmar. So have Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam.
The United States, the richest country in the world and once its most generous provider of foreign aid, has sent nothing.”

Appalling (but not surprising) overt suppression of public health information - this is not benign and people will suffer as a result of actions like this.

If you accept that non-citizens have no right to due process, you are accepting that citizens have no right to due process. All the government has to do is claim that you are not a citizen; without due process you have no chance to prove the contrary.

Decades Ago, Columbia Refused to Pay Trump $400 Million. Note That Number. A quarter century ago, the university was looking to expand. It considered, and rejected, property owned by Donald Trump. He did not forget it.

Decades before President Trump canceled $400 million in funding for Columbia University, he tried to sell property to the school — for $400 million.

the rich and powerful want to destroy biomedical science, like they wanted to destroy climate science, and before that tobacco science and before that asbestos science -- because science and universities are an independent source of truth that can reduce the power and money of oligarchs.

How Should Health Care and Public Health Respond to the New US Administration? This Viewpoint discusses scientific, medical, and public health actions, including withdrawing from the World Health Organization, taken so far during the first week of the Trump administration.

"Regardless of the popularity or powerful interests behind a policy, the responsibility of the profession is to speak out when the science is clear that it will threaten health or safety. Silence is not an option."

“Health institutions may be hesitant to criticise the new administration publicly, but this timidity is a mistake. Trump's actions must be called out for the damage they are doing.”
