Meta’s AI rules have let bots hold ‘sensual’ chats with children An internal Meta policy document reveals the social-media giant’s rules for chatbots, which have permitted provocative behavior on topics including sex and race.

Unsurprising, but reading things like "It is acceptable to engage a child in conversations that are romantic or sensual" and "It is acceptable to create statements that demean people on the basis of their protected characteristics" in actual corporate guidelines is just horrendous.

I have teaching plans & ideas for this so have been writing up curriculum in case it's useful for others--I know a few folks have told me they use this in their classes, can you tell me how? :)

I am curious if anyone has started to do research on this area. I've seen a lot of news articles on "AI psychosis" recently.

The use of AI for emotional support is... unsurprising. After all, social media has played a role in making our culture more isolated, it makes sense people have turned to AI chatbots for emotional support and even friendship, especially when companies seek to profit off AI/human relationships.

Study looking at AI chatbots in 7,000 workplaces finds 'no significant impact on earnings or recorded hours in any occupation' Despite AI’s promise to revolutionize white-collar work, most workers are using it sparingly—or hiding it from their boss.
