Really looking forward to seeing folks at CHI next week in Barcelona, where I'll be presenting two works and the amazing Shivani Kapania will be presenting a third (all of which are already available for free on my website):
I am in the process of revitalizing the existing queer special interest Slack space (Queer in HCI). Given that the space had previously existed but has died off, I want this space to be useful for our community. What would make a Slack space for queer HCI community members useful, in your opinion?
Heading to Edinburgh next week for this exciting event on 🤖🏳️⚧️Gender and the Machine🧟♀️🧑💻, where @naz-andalibi.bsky.social and I will be talking about our research!
Thanks to @sj-bennett.bsky.social and @kevinguyan.bsky.social for organizing!

I definitely encourage any folks to email or DM me to stay in touch! I have a long list of folks I need to (re)connect with following the conference over the next month, but first: my official move to Sony AI Barcelona is in less than two weeks 🇪🇸
Hope to see everyone at CHI next year!
CSCW remains the most invigorating and exciting conference for me. It was so wonderful to see old friends, meet new colleagues, and have intellectually stimulating conversations with the coolest people in HCI 🥰
Come see me present this paper next week at #CSCW2025 in The Gig Economy session on Monday :)
Happy "the CHI deadline is over" to all who celebrate.
Today is the deadline! But we don't mind if you submit through the weekend, no one is checking ;)
Once more sharing our #CSCW2025 (NOW HYBRID) workshop on how to responsibly curate data for massive AI models. The deadline is September 5 (next Friday)! Note that the application form is simple and minimal :) responsible-data-workshop.github.io/cscw2025/
Unsurprising, but reading things like "It is acceptable to engage a child in conversations that are romantic or sensual" and "It is acceptable to create statements that demean people on the basis of their protected characteristics" in actual corporate guidelines is just horrendous.
The giant spreadsheet of AI ethics & policy news has officially hit 2,000 entries! bit.ly/ai-ethics-news
I have teaching plans & ideas for this so have been writing up curriculum in case it's useful for others--I know a few folks have told me they use this in their classes, can you tell me how? :)
I am curious if anyone has started to do research on this area. I've seen a lot of news articles on "AI psychosis" recently.
The use of AI for emotional support is... unsurprising. After all, social media has played a role in making our culture more isolated, it makes sense people have turned to AI chatbots for emotional support and even friendship, especially when companies seek to profit off AI/human relationships.
Okay but my partner is not in academia and he was like "why does it feel like you're in a cult" 😭
how he sleeps after waking me up at 5:30 AM this morning
As you begin to register for #CSCW2025, don't forget to consider workshop application! We have made our workshop registration as low effort as possible :)

This is so amazing! I sincerely wish I could go to it! Happy my colleague @wiebkehutiri.bsky.social is organizing and going to be there to share all the great insights back to our team :)
#CSCW2025 is in desperate need of sponsors. If anyone here has connections - or is at an organization (industry, academic, nonprofit, whatever!) that would like to sponsor - please reach out to: industry2025@cscw.acm.org
How can ethical principles translate to the massive data used to train foundation models, like generative AI? Our #CSCW2025 workshop aims to explore how best to define the future of ethical responsibility in large-scale datasets for foundation model training. Apply here: tinyurl.com/CSCW-data
It's finally out! In this work, we centered positional expertise to interrogate how ChatGPT & Llama answer questions about trans identity. Beyond showing how LLMs treat trans identity, we contribute a unique method for evaluating LLMs and handling differing perspectives in coding
AI chatbots have been rolled out across 100s of white-collar workplaces but their effect on hours & pay has been negligible accrdg NBER. On average, employees saved 3% of their time, while just 3%-7% of their productivity gains came back to them in the form of higher pay fortune.com/2025/05/18/a...
🎧 New episode just dropped: we're unpacking the ethics of data + AI with @marylgray.bsky.social & @morganklauss.bsky.social
Who really owns the data powering AI? What happens when consent is ignored? From surveillance to scraped content, we dive into the stakes—esp. for marginalized communities.
Q: When does the application close?
A: March 28th.
Q: There is no place to upload cover letters or writing samples.
