biggest compliment i ever received from the mediocre band i was in back in 2005-2011 was that we “kinda sounded live pavement sometimes”

go in as blind as possible, there are some un polished edges but the sense of discovery and wonder is very very welcome and it’s just a treat to explore

realizing why i fell in love with this game 3 weeks ago…..it’s basically Suikoden 2 meets Super Mario World meets Shadow of the Colossus all added into the BotW blueprint

it’s such a dense and beautiful world, 1000% lets you discover everything on your own for better or for worse, lots of patches since launch already also 👍 @thedailycrimson.bsky.social

The story in CD is from what you see and take from the world around you. Its the boy I see chasing a random cat in Hernand, its the two trolls I see taking a hike together or its subtle ways I talk to my dog as we hike up a massively new hill. Please to read your take though and will now follow.

I do think a game like this is SO divissive because IMO it very much does have a wonderfully alive world and story--even though everyone keeps saying it doesnt. I think its because they want something that is more first-hand cutscene and dialogue heavy like KCD2, RDR or Death Stranding.

But also I personally haven't enjoyed exploring the bounds of a game's world as much as I have with CD since BoTW. It does have some rough edges and some ways it forces you to solve puzzles and then directly contradicts itself.

Interesting take. As someone who genuinely finds its beautifully intriguing to discuss what other people love/hate/enjoy in this medium I love. First of all spending a ~100 hours in a game and still hating it I always find hilarious.

if you could liken this Eagles off-season (so far) to any Leonardo DiCaprio movie what would you pick?

and just for clarity, there are similarities but it’s more about genuinely being wide-eyed in your exploration while pushing the bounds of what the game’s systems,
world and design allows. Legit my favorite feeling no matter if it’s the smallest indie game or a big budget AAA.

fwiw if you can go in blind to Crimson Desert I wholeheartedly recommend—-for some reason recently i’ve been eyeing it but avoiding ALL coverage. I had expectations but it’s the most i’ve felt awed by a game since 2017 & BoTW—which is one of the most memorable opening 10 hours of a game ever.

My narrative-minigame-dad-sim, Bundle of Joy, is going to be one year old on March 25th!

I blogged about things I've learned in the past year and some "advice" for solodevs and indies releasing their first commercial product.

Hope folks find it useful ^__^

Do you, small / solo dev, know if your game is in IGF this year? No, do you REALLY? Have you asked your publisher? I unfortunately must relay to you that I can name three examples this year of high-profile IGF 2025 games that were submitted either:

By the indie’s publisher, without informing the developer at all
By the indie’s publisher’s externally contracted PR firm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you want to know why this is a FUCKING BAD IDEA? Here’s an example of a thing that happened this year:

Judge: Hi! I’m having some technical issues with the build. Could you help me out?
PR Company who submitted: We’ll get in touch with the developer and get back to you.
—
*THREE WEEKS OUT OF THE 1 MONTH JUDGING PERIOD PASS*
—
Judge: Hello????? Judging is almost over. Is everything okay?
PR Company who submitted: We’ll have an updated build for you when the game comes out [note: That’s gonna be after judging is over]

Result: Your game has wasted its opportunity completely.

Now that IGF and GDC is over I finally got around to writing up my postscript on IGF submissions and some of the issues we ran into in 2025. If you plan to submit your game in 2026 I recommend reading this, tbh. auratriolo.com/blog/2026/03...
