I agree - I feel like we could have had so much more about the elves and the beginning of the Second Age - and Numenor before the Fall. I really did not need the amnesia and Hobbit timeline - also I would have loved to learn more about the Maia and their missions etc.

I mean there is a lot to mine....but you are right. Personall I keep hoping that we will see more LOTR content and not less. But that really was the vibe that JRR Tolkien wanted - to build a world that others would also build out and add to.

I mean there is a lot of padding that can be mined from the appendices and the histories but I get how it could be a lot. Personally I really liked his vision and that it told more of the stories but I can absolutely appreciate how it could irk people.

Watching your boyfriend watch The Hobbit for the first time is a magical experience. This was a tale that got me through middle school bullying, and taught me that small good checks great evil. So getting to share that with someone .... Life changing.
