There's some very interesting Jewish history in that part of the story; the medieval synagogue in Carpentras was one of the best things I saw on that trip.

Popping my head up to "not exactly" this point of French history/wine, the Châteauneuf was built in the 14th century north (upriver) of Avignon when things got a little too heated in Avignon. The papal palace in Avignon still stands; the Châteauneuf is this atmospheric ruin. The wine IS good!

He always loved his time with F, and F helped us take such good care of him!

Unfortunately after more than 17 years with our sweetest Cloud it is almost time to say goodbye. He is so grateful to have so many friends all over the world and sends his love to all of you and all your furry pals.

I'm drinking spritzes ok, not doing shots

In the weekly booze report I have to say how much red wine, white wine, other wine and then "shots" and I'm like "this really doesn't fit my lifestyle"

I want to send them wording notes, there's a big difference between a little espresso here and a vat of Dunkin's, what's a "cup"?

I signed up for a heart study where I agreed to let them nag me about my alcohol consumption but I don't know about all this, this is getting awfully personal

It's funny because I always think of Joséphine Baker as their most beloved American but you're the second person to say Jerry Lewis!

That sounds like you

Also Joséphine Baker!

I do enjoy how this phrasing leaves open the possibility that he was the ONLY American the French loved.

I have been arguing with people on TikTok this morning (I know, I know) (I say people but you know, you know), and it's interesting how quickly the right has coalesced on "we must consider each piece of evidence about him in an absolute vacuum, absolutely no connections or context allowed"

It's all very "the direct route from Gamergate to the fall of democracy," isn't it.

French Winemaker Gets Prison for Scheme That Threatened the Champagne Bubble

www.nytimes.com/2025/09/05/w... "'It’s a betrayal; it’s like if you found out your husband was cheating on you,'” but I'm pretty sure that champagne fraud is substantially worse than adultery in the French accounting of sins.
