No better way to celebrate 10 years(!!) since joining the Grant lab than to celebrate at my PhD graduation! @struangrant.bsky.social I am so grateful for all the years of mentorship, and I’m so excited to continue collaborating with you and the rest of our colleagues at Penn/CHOP for years to come!

Proud of my Alma mater (Penn/CHOP!), proud of biomedical scientists, proud of NIH-sponsored research, and most importantly, proud to be in the field that makes discoveries like this possible.

Everything is bad but I’m finally in possession of my PhD tam so now one (1) thing is good. See you for graduation next month @cambupenn.bsky.social!

I just had my busiest week in lab since finishing my PhD, and I loved every second of it. This government can attack diversity and science and education all they want, but they’ll NEVER take away my passion for science and my responsibility to use my education to research cures for human disease

2 years today since we lost Casey.

In a way year 2 was harder than year 1. He should have read my thesis and celebrated at my defense, and we should be getting beers at ASHG in Boston to talk about all the cool things I’m doing in my postdoc now. We all still miss him.

It’s officially 5 years since I got an email from Penn saying to “stay home for the next 2 weeks and then we’ll reassess things from there…” While I have no desire to go back to the dark pre-vaccine days of COVID I will say this: while I was stuck at home, I wrote an NIH F31 grant and it got funded.

Just make it 7, almost 8 pages like I did 😂

I was at the original March for Science in DC in 2017 as a relatively optimistic 21 year old, it’s hard to believe 8 years later things have gotten even worse

I’d rather be in lab, but alas, I’ve got to go protest to save science. Again. Tomorrow (March 7), your state capital, time to Stand Up For Science

PubMed is down, so I thought “surely BLAST won’t also be down” and uh… it’s also down.

Folks it’s getting bleaker by the day

If you’re like me you’ve been doing a LOT of doomscrolling. Let me briefly interrupt your doomscrolling with my latest finished crochet project: a granny square afghan inspired by Spanish/Portuguese tiles that I gave to my sister for Christmas

RUN, do not walk, to your nearest drug store or doctor’s office and make sure you are up to date on ALL vaccines.

I don’t want to be so pessimistic, but it’s hard not to feel completely demoralized having gone through 4 years of undergrad and 6+ years of my PhD just to watch all my future biomedical career prospects slip away at the whim of a government that couldn’t care less about its (non-billionaire) people

Fantastic work out of my new lab, so excited to be a part of ongoing efforts in the optical pooled screening world! Congrats to all the authors 🎉

My account was disabled due to “suspected spam activity” but luckily I was able to appeal that and get it back. If this was Twitter I’d suspect something shady going on, but here it feels like a genuine mistake. Anyway, I’m back and GO BIRDS

It will always be an honor to be a mentee of Casey. I’m so deeply grateful to all the wonderful scientists who took the time to record these lectures to honor his memory and to make science more accessible to everyone. Special thanks to Shweta for making this all happen!

Deeply ominous warning from Amtrak about my train home today on the Northeast Corridor (we did, in fact, experience a delay a lengthy delay)
